From Brian Cox to Miranda Otto, The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit trilogies, Warner Bros. is eager to expand on its J.R.R. Tolkien movie franchise. Prime Video’s The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, produced with New Line Cinema, has brought the franchise into the streaming world. Now, The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim will introduce an animated element.

Set 183 years before the events of The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers, The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim story revolves around Helm Hammerhand, the King of Rohan, who has to defend his people against an army of Dunlendings. Helm becomes the namesake of Helm’s Deep, so this is essentially an origin story for one of the greatest battle sequences in The Lord of the Rings trilogy. The animated spin-off movie is set to be released in theaters on April 12, 2024, with a mighty voice cast bringing its characters to life.
