Some of these games might also compete for the top spot as the longest-running FPS of all time. Released on PCs back in 2009, Killing Floor tried to compete with other major FPS and horror games out in the same year by combining the two genres. Despite being made up of 2 modes, the game offers a lot of replay value for its difficulty options and letting up to 6 people play at a time. It even has an achievement system on Steam that will test anyone to see if they can beat the average length to finish the game. Although the main story length is quite short, the waves of monsters and additional completion goals bring this to a much bigger 57hrs runtime.

Borderlands 2: GOTY Edition - 59H

Tiny Tina - Borderlands 2

Seen by many as one of the best games of the 2010s, Borderlands 2 saw a group of Vault Hunters attempting to exact their revenge on fan-favorite antagonist Handsome Jack for leaving them to die on the surface of an icy planet. With new weapons, entertaining characters, and gorgeous landscapes to explore, the sequel proved to be bigger and better than the 1st game.

After the game's initial year after release, a new edition was released that included all the DLC add-ons that would prove to offer many hours of enjoyment for anyone who had yet to jump in. And the achievements or trophies for players to unlock gave them the extra incentive to test their skills to earn them. Although some newcomers might appreciate these tips to reach the max level in the game.

Fallout 3: GOTY Edition - 61H

Fallout 3 - Neeson

Easily one of the greatest games that Bethesda has ever developed, Fallout 3 took the franchise in a whole new direction. Many will be familiar with Bungie and their work associated to the Halo series. But after they stopped developing the series, they looked to create a new and exciting IP. Destiny was their attempt to create a new and ambitious sci-fi shooter to compete with some of the best in the genre.

With expansions like The Witch King and online modes to play with friends, this became a large game to beat that its devoted fans were certainly willing to accomplish. Considered by some fans as one of the best games like Halo, it was no joke if players wanted to see every planet and loot that was available.

But despite its issues, it remains one of the longest games to beat with all the activities and story missions to overcome. From selecting branching dialogue in key scenes to giving the playable V extra perks during combat, the game could have sucked more people into its futuristic and high-tech world if it had had a successful launch.

Fallout 4 - 78H

Vault-Tec Rep Fallout 4

Released in 2015, Fallout 4 received plenty of favorable reviews, although it didn't quite reach the same love as its predecessor. The game did get nominated, and won, several awards in the video game industry and received some from Bethesda with updates and DLC packs.

But it's the different endings the player can unlock that make this a long journey that gamers might be interested to replay for full access. Add to that the multiple factions and the interactions with the most likable companions and this is one post-apocalypse that saw players come back to again and again.

While it was a buggy mess at launch despite some looking forward to an online multiplayer game in the franchise's world, one of the most infamous video game releases of all time.

But the game is still updated and ed to this day, adding in new content for players to explore while improving upon the bugs and issues from its initial launch. And with these extra additions on top of a large landscape to roam in, anyone who jumps into it may stick around to the end with their friends.

Payday 2 - 126H

Being able to perform a bank heist with 3 other people was the major selling point for Payday and the sequel improved upon it with updated graphics and customizable gear to collect. Payday 2 has been around for nearly a decade and with collaborations with other studios as well as numerous ports to various systems, it's had a very impressive run.

And it is easily one of the longest games to finish, mostly due to its online multiplayer aspect. And with new additions and modes throughout the years, it only saw fans of online shooters return to commit more over-the-top robberies.

7 Days To Die - 133H

7 Days to Die Custom Base

Another game nearly celebrating its 10th birthday, 7 Days To Die tried to do something different in the horror game space. The player would spawn in a randomly generated open-world where they must fight off zombies and survive for as long as they can.

With no playthrough ever being the same due to the game's engine and design, many hours can just fly by in this game. And while the console versions are no longer available, it can be easily found on Steam for newcomers to give it a shot and beat the average time on HLTB's website.

MAG - 162H

Easily one of the most ambitious FPS games in 2010, MAG offered PS3 owners a chance to fight and shoot their way to victory with up to 256 players per match. The game is unfortunately no longer playable as the server was shut down 4 years later, but it tried to push the limits of the PS3 at the time.

Players who make their way through each individual game mode will soon see how it became the longest FPS game. And while it's now common to see matches with 100 people battling it out in games like Call of Duty: Warzone, this tried to be the next big ambitious shooter game before they arrived on the scene, although it is now sadly oft forgotten.
