Warning: SPOILERS for Loki episode 4

new nexus event when they touched

With the pair back at the TVA, they were immediately split up. Agent Mobius initially zeroed in on Loki who attempted to warn him about how the organization is lying to everyone. But, given his penchant for lying, Mobius was understandably unconvinced. The God of Mischief was then forced into a portal where he was subjected to a time loop involving Lady Sif. In it, the Asgardian warrior and one of Thor's best friends chastised him for his behavior before delivering a hard knee.

This was an interesting torture scheme, but since the TVA is an organization primarily concerned with the concept of time, it fits. That being said, this isn't the first time that something like this is seen in the MCU. Back in 2016, Doctor Strange used the same tactic against Doctor Strange film ended with a more unique final battle than the typical comic book third-act battle. As Dormammu threatened to bring the Dark Dimension to Earth with the help of Kaecillius, Doctor Strange took it upon himself to face the primordial inter-dimensional entity on his own. But instead of fighting him one-on-one, he trapped them both in a time loop using the Eye of Agamotto. There, Doctor Strange died countless times only to eventually come back and restart the whole process again which frustrated Dormammu. So much so, that he agreed to drop his nefarious plans of taking over Earth altogether.

Doctor Strange Multiverse Madness Dormammu Return

Obviously, the context between the usage of the same torture scheme is different. The Loki show dit it in a minuscule way, with the returning Lady Sif coming in and hurting the God of Mischief both emotionally and physically. There's also no end goal for this plot, unlike in Doctor Strange. Instead, Mobius just wanted to punish Loki for running away with Sylvie, causing chaos at the TVA, and also betraying his trust. Meanwhile, Doctor Strange's use of the time loop was a way to break Dormammu. He was willing to be trapped in the same space, and die at the hands of the villain over and over again until the being decided to give up and leave Earth.

It's worth noting that the writer of the Loki series, Michael Waldron, is also the scribe for Sam Raimi-directed sequel. The question now is whether or not the God of Mischief and/or the TVA and the MCU's future Sorcerer Supreme will ever cross paths.
