Marvel Studios' 2012 Loki, who escaped in Avengers: Endgame, taking the Tesseract with him.

With Loki starting production early this year for its 2021 release date, there have been a number of reports about which Marvel characters may be ing Tom Hiddleston's God of Mischief in the series. Today, ComicBook reports Owen Wilson has been cast in a major role for Loki, though the publication specifies his character details are being kept under wraps. Variety further reports their own sources have confirmed Wilson has been cast in Loki. It's unclear whether Wilson will be playing a Marvel comics character or a new character entirely - though the secretive nature of the role points to the former.

The only other cast member to have ed the series is Sophia Di Martino, who's rumored to play a female version of Loki. There are also rumors of Young Loki appearing in the Disney+ show, and more recent reports claimed Loki is casting Sera, who would be the MCU's first transgender character. However, none of these roles would be a fit for Wilson so it's unclear who he could be playing. It also remains to be seen whether Wilson will play an ally of Hiddleston's Loki or a villain on the series. Given his extensive comedy experience, it also may be the case that Marvel has cast the actor to play a comedic role alongside Hiddleston, similar to the duo of Thor (Chris Hemsworth) and Loki in Thor: Ragnarok.

Although the characters expected to appear in Loki aren't yet known for sure, we do know the series will deal in time travel. Not only was it hinted at in the original synopsis for the series, but Loki using time travel was confirmed by producer Stephen Broussard in the Disney+ Expanding the Universe special. Further, Marvel props master Russell Bobbitt seemingly hinted Loki will return to The Avengers time in 2012 when he showed off the trickster's scepter during pre-production. So it's likely Loki will meet Wilson's character somewhere in time, though we don't know when. Hopefully fans will learn more about Loki as filming begins.
