Even though seven years have ed since Directed by Steven Soderbergh, Logan Lucky is a heist film that features an ensemble cast including Channing Tatum, Adam Driver, Hilary Swank, Riley Keough, Katie Holmes, and Daniel Craig. Similar to Soderbergh's Ocean's movies, Logan Lucky, too, never leaves a dull moment with its humor, performances, and thrilling heist plot. Owing to this, it is not surprising that the film boasts a Rotten Tomatoes score of 92%.
Unfortunately, despite earning acclaim from viewers and critics, Logan Lucky failed to leave its mark at the box office after only grossing $48.5 million against a budget of $29 million. However, now that Logan Lucky is available for streaming on Netflix, it is hard not to hope the film will get the attention it deserves. While its well-thought-out heist keeps viewers at the edge of their seats, its comical performances and hilarious references add a unique charm to its narrative. One of these references even states a fact about the Game of Thrones franchise, which holds true even to this day.

Logan Lucky Ending Explained
Logan Lucky's ending concludes the central heist but also introduces an intriguing twist that maintains an air of ambiguity around the robbers' fate.
Logan Lucky's Inmates Demand More Game Of Thrones Books In The Prison Library
The Book Demands Are Not Fulfilled For One Hilarious Reason
In Logan Lucky, Daniel Craig's Joe Bang has to escape prison to ensure he is able to fulfill his role as the central heist team's safe-cracker. Before executing his escape plan, he convinces one of his fellow inmates to create a distraction by starting a fight in the prison's dining room. Instead of merely starting a fight, the inmate creates the perfect window for Bang to stay out of prison by holding a few prison guards as hostages and forcing the prison's authorities to comply with their demands.
One of their demands is to bring more installments of George R. R. Martin's Game of Thrones books. The prisoners are ecstatic when the warden agrees to add A Dance with Dragons to the library. However, to their dismay, he also reveals that The Winds of Winter and A Dream of Spring are yet to be published. Instead of believing the warden, the prisoners claim that he is making facts up, which gives the prisoners the perfect reason to extend their protest.
How Logan Lucky Pokes Fun At George R.R. Martin's Delay With The Winds Of Winter
The Film Reminds Viewers Of The Delays In The Books' Release
After the warden informs the prisoners that The Winds of Winter and A Dream of Spring have still not been released, one prisoner steps up and claims he is bluffing. Putting his love for the books on full display, the prisoner even recalls how George R.R. Martin was supposed to give The Winds of Winter to his publisher two years ago. As a fan, the warden, too, agrees that the original deadline for the book has ed, but hilariously assures the prisoner that he is reading the book series' official Wikipedia page.
...Logan Lucky takes a funny jab at George R.R. Matrin's book release delays
Despite the warden's best efforts to convince them, the prisoner argues that two new inmates somehow knew all the story details from the franchise, which makes no sense if the new book has not come out. The warden theorizes that, since the show jumped ahead of the books after season 4, the new inmates must be talking about the show. After this conversation, the prisoner's disappointment knows no limits as he steps back and stays in denial about the books' release. With this, Logan Lucky takes a funny jab at George R.R. Matrin's book release delays.
In 2022, George R.R. Matrin stated that The Winds of Winter was expected to have close to 1500 pages, of which he had written around 1,100 to 1,200 pages. In November 2023, however, he revealed he was struggling to complete the book.
Logan Lucky's Release Date Makes The Game Of Thrones Joke Even Better
The Movie Came Out 7 Years Ago And Still No Book
The fact that it has been six years since Logan Lucky's theatrical release makes the Game of Thrones joke even funnier because The Winds of Winter has still not been released and does not even have an official release date. Six years after Logan Lucky's premiere, the Game of Thrones joke still stands the test of time, given how the film is now available for streaming on Netflix, but many still await the next installment in the George R.R. Martin book series. Apart from the Game of Thrones jab, Logan Lucky features several other timeless gags along with a compelling heist plot that makes it a film worth watching.
