Lenovo has announced a new virtual reality headset called the Legion VR700, which is positioned as a rival to the Meta Quest 2. Lenovo is not new to making VR headsets. In 2018, it launched the Lenovo Mirage Solo, a standalone VR headset with Google's now-shuttered Daydream VR platform.

In 2020, it announced the Mirage VR S3, an all-in-one VR headset co-developed with Pico Interactive, a VR giant that ByteDance acquired in Aug. 2021. Unlike the Mirage Solo, the Mirage VR S3 was designed for enterprise s. Besides VR, Lenovo has also dabbled in Mixed Reality as it announced a Reality headset in 2017 called the Lenovo Explorer.

The headset has a strap that goes around the circumference of the head, with a large curved front portion that rests on the forehead. s can adjust the strap with a knob on the back. The Legion VR700 has four cameras — two at the top corners and two at the bottom. It also has its battery at the back for balance. Lenovo's famous Legion logo is also plastered on the front of the headset.

Lenovo says its headset has a 4K Real RGB LCD with a 3664 x 1920 resolution that translates to a 773 PPI. It also s 72Hz/90Hz variable refresh rates and 6 Degrees of Freedom (6DOF) precision tracking. Powering the Legion VR700 is Qualcomm's Snapdragon XR2, which was announced in Dec. 2019 and can be found in VR headsets such as HTC Vive Focus 3 and the Meta Quest 2.

The Legion VR700 is available in a single configuration with 8GB of LPDDR4X RAM and 256GB of UFS 3.0 storage. Lenovo says it comes with 25 built-in games that include Angry Birds VR: Island of Pigs, Arizona Sunshine and Fruit Ninja VR. It also ships with iQiyi, a Chinese streaming service likened to Netflix. The Legion VR700 s wireless and wired streaming. Lenovo didn't reveal any details about the headset's battery capacity.

Lenovo will ship the Legion VR700 with a pair of controllers, batteries, a charger, a USB cable and a cleaning cloth. However, the VR headset is only available in China for now, where it will sell for ¥2999 (~$440) for a limited time before reverting to its original price of ¥3299 (~$484). This makes it cheaper than the Meta Quest 2, which got a price increase this August and now sells for $499 for the version with 256GB of storage.
