release of Horizon-themed LEGO sets back in 2022, this is a lighthearted adaptation of the Horizon series, featuring the classic blocky art style and tongue-in-cheek humor LEGO video games have always been known for. It features series protagonist Aloy and her friends on a unique adventure, tailor-made for an entirely different kind of gameplay in a familiar world.
Even though it's only been revealed in a single trailer, LEGO Horizon Adventures already has a solid reveal window, an established story, and a decent grasp on gameplay. Here's everything the first trailer reveals about Aloy's next journey into the wilds of a post-apocalyptic America in LEGO Horizon Adventures.
LEGO Horizon Adventures: Release Window & Platforms
When Does LEGO Horizon Adventures Come Out?
LEGO Horizon Adventures is expected to be released during the winter holiday season of 2024, shortly before the end of the year. It doesn't have a concrete release date yet, but one is likely to be revealed closer to launch. As it is, LEGO Horizon has a pretty narrow window: there's room to speculate about when the holiday season truly starts and ends, but the game is most likely to come out in November in order to leave ample time for holiday shopping.

LEGO Horizon Adventures First Trailer Promises An Adorable Outing For Aloy
LEGO: Horizon Adventures has received an official reveal and first trailer. Here’s everything to know about the colorful adaptation of Aloy’s story.
LEGO Horizon Adventures will be released on Nintendo Switch, PS5 and PC, in line with Sony's ongoing multiplatform release strategy. The game is expected to be out for both platforms on the same day, but that may not become fully clear until a final release date is provided.
Although many games developed by Sony-owned studios have later been ported to PC, this is one of the first to be released day-one on the Switch.
LEGO Horizon Adventures: Story Details
A New Adventure For Aloy & Varl
LEGO Horizon Adventures tells a completely original story, never before seen in the Horizon games. Only the most basic details have been revealed in the first trailer, but it's clear this story will star recurring protagonist Aloy alongside her friend and fellow Nora Brave Varl. Based on the characters present in the first trailer, it appears to take place concurrently with Horizon Zero Dawn, or shortly after its ending. The people of Mother's Heart are already well familiar with Aloy and assured of her battle prowess, but she doesn't seem to have journeyed into the Forbidden West.
The story of LEGO Horizon Adventures seems to begin with Aloy and Varl investigating a rampaging Thunderjaw, fiercely defending its territory and posing a threat to Mother's Heart. It's unknown just how things will develop beyond that, but their journey will take them to various regions of the country: frozen mountains, muddy swamps, dense forests, and ancient ruins. Players will likely recognize certain iconic locations from the mainline series, like the Raintrace and the Sheerside Mountains, as they travel through the building block world.

Horizon Forbidden West: 10 Things To Know Before Starting The Game
Like all good games, there are things that players don't readily expect. So what should you know about Horizon Forbidden West before playing it?
Overall, players can expect a much more lighthearted plot from LEGO Horizon Adventures. This pairs with its cutesy, toyetic art style to create a family-friendly introduction to the Horizon universe, one centered on fun rather than drama. Don't expect the kind of dramatic, often devastating, storytelling characteristic of the mainline series; LEGO Horizon will tell a much simpler, sillier story.
LEGO Horizon Adventures: Gameplay Details
How LEGO Horizon's Co-Op Works
LEGO Horizon Adventures keeps much of the core Horizon gameplay intact, but brings a few new twists to keep things fresh and align the overall experience with the LEGO brand. It's an open-world action RPG, in which players will explore a condensed version of Horizon Zero Dawn's map. As they travel in search of pre-apocalyptic secrets and valuable resources, they'll fight giant machines using melee weapons, bows, and ancient technology as their weapons in battle. They can also collect materials to craft new costumes, gear, and equipment.
However, unlike the mainline Horizon games, which use a third-person perspective, LEGO Horizon uses a mix of isometric, top-down, and side-scrolling cameras. This allows for what appear to be some light platforming sections, with Aloy and Varl swinging across vines and balancing on log bridges. It also makes boss battles much more reliant on the environment in which they take place: machines may spread area-of-effect damage pools across wide swathes of the battlefield, while players take shelter on high ridges. This mix of perspectives also creates the perfect setup for one of LEGO Horizon's other new mechanics: co-op.

Horizon Forbidden West: Best Skills To Unlock First
There are tons of different skills to level up for Aloy in Horizon Forbidden West. The best skills will increase her damage, defense, and HP.
Co-op gameplay is a major part of , which gives it a major advantage over the main series. It looks to allow for up to two players at once. This is pretty common in LEGO games, but where they usually use split-screen to allow for free roaming, LEGO Horizon's top-down boss fights seem geared at keeping both players on the same screen. One player can control Aloy while the other controls Varl, and the two can play simultaneously, aiding each other in battle and exchanging quippy dialogue. Both local couch and online co-op are available.
The parts players collect throughout LEGO Horizon Adventures can also be used to craft costumes, as well as new structures at Mother's Heart. The more missions Aloy and Varl undertake, and the more pieces they bring back, the more they can expand on their home base. The trailer shows things like hot dog stands, Ferris wheels, and dance floors. It's unknown whether these structures will actually offer services that affect gameplay, or whether they'll be merely cosmetic additions, but it appears the restoration and expansion of Mother's Heart will have a role in the story.
That's everything in the first LEGO Horizon trailer, but more details, including an actual release date, may be revealed closer to launch. The game promises a whole new spin on a familiar formula, a delightful treat for both longtime fans and series newcomers. LEGO Horizon Adventures will be available this holiday season for Switch, PC, and PS5.
