The Arrowverse also contains its fair share of jokes, but Legends of Tomorrow prevail when it comes to humor.
That ought to be expected, since what else could you get when you put together a team of misfits, geeks, former criminals, and absolute losers, and call them heroes? Sorry, not heroes, legends. Still, even though the show is primarily about humor, it also works with characters' development, and many of its heroes have grown a lot... while others, not so much.
Has Grown: Sara Lance
Sara Lance hadn't had the easiest of lives. While she was born into a loving family, she did grew up only with her dad and her sister. Then she almost died, underwent rigorous training which leads to Sara becoming an assassin. She died, came back to life, lost her beloved sister, and she also managed to became the Captain of Waverider and the Legends.
Not a bad resume, don't you think? Sara's biggest problem was her inability to get emotionally close to someone but she eventually managed to overcome it and is now dating her girlfriend Ava Sharpe and seems to be truly in love.
Hasn't Grown: Gideon
To be fair to Gideon, her emotional and psychological growth never was the primary focus of Legends of Tomorrow. The show prefers to focus on its human characters (and somewhat human... such as Charlie), and Gideon is, after all, a computer, albeit a super intelligent one who also doesn't lack a sense of humor and kindness.
She plays an integral part in the show, since she's the one who helps to operate the ship, keeps it functional and also helps the Legends to solve the problems across time, but with the brief exception of her relationship with Rip, she remains pretty much the same.
Has Grown: Mick Rory
Mick Rory's transformation is one of the biggest ones in the show, even though you might not think it at a first glance since Mick usually doesn't have as much space as some other of the team. Still, when you look back, it's easy to see how much has Mick grown during the course of the show.
He started out as a villain in The Flash and he later ed the team alongside his best friend Leonard Snart aka Captain Cold. Leonard later died, and even though Mick was grieving him, he still stayed with the team. He became a successful romance novelist ever since, found new friends and even discovered he has a daughter.
Hasn't Grown: Nate Heywood
This one's a bit debatable but it's still difficult to overlook that Nate hasn't really changed that much since his first appearance in the show in its second season.
Yes, he gained his powers and fought many villains and managed to build an absolutely epic friendship with Ray (a bromance to die for), but he was already a fully established character when he came into the show and he had no major issues to overcome. And even when he did manage to move on with his life, to take it in a new direction, like when he began dating Zari, the show pushed his progress back by deleting Zari from his life.
Has Grown: Nora Darhk
Nora Darhk's story is a clear example that you can always turn your life around, no matter how it began. Nora is the daughter of Damien Darhk, a powerful sorcerer who always stood on the side of evil. Nora lived in a cult when she was a child and was groomed to host the demon Malus in her own body.
When you take all of this into consideration, it's even more irable that she managed to push through and is now one of the Legend's close allies. She started working with children like a fairy godmother, loves her job and her friends, and even got married to Ray.
Hasn't Grown: Astra Logue
Astra Logue is currently the thorn in the Legend's eyes, especially in John Constantine's eyes. John first met her when she was a little girl and promised to save her and her mom, except his effort, failed and Astra ended up in hell. She decided to make the best of her unfortunate situation and started ruling her section of hell, determined to make John pay for what he had done to her.
Even when it looks like Astra might be willing to forget the past and allow John to help her, to overwrite all the bad things that had happened, she still doesn't trust him and has her own agenda.
Has Grown: John Constantine
Speaking of John Constantine... Constantine, brilliantly portrayed by Matt Ryan, started in his solo TV show Constantine but the show was canceled after just one season. Luckily for all his fans, Constantine moved onto Legends of Tomorrow and is now a part of the team, helping it with his considerable magic powers.
John is cynical, has trust issues and doesn't mince his words, but as time goes on, he comes to realize that he's not alone and has friends who are there for him. He also shows genuine remorse for his past actions and decides to do whatever is in his power to fix them.
Hasn't Grown: Gary Green
Gary Green isn't a member of the Legends but he works with them from time to time so he could probably be called an honorary member. Gary works for the Time Bureau, an organization focused on monitoring the time and making sure nobody messes it up (like the Legends sometimes do, even though to be fair to them, they usually man up and fix their mistakes).
Gary is usually awkward, has the tendency to ramble, he's overly emotional and attached to his friends. His character hasn't changed much since he first appeared on the show if you don't count his brief tenure as a villain.
Has Grown: Ray Palmer
If one character deserves to be on this list, it's Ray Palmer aka the Atom. Ray is leaving the show now and he said his goodbyes in the latest episode, a fact which many fans cried over, especially since Ray's actor Brandon Routh didn't want to leave the show.
Back to Ray, though. He's the heart and soul of the team and his eternal optimism managed to push them through even the darkest times. Ray opened up to his co-, found new friends, and what's even more important, managed to heal his heart which has been broken more than once and found (hopefully) the love of his life in Nora. His greatest sacrifice - leaving the ship to a start a new life with Nora - was the ultimate proof of how much Ray has grown.
Hasn't Grown: Zari Tomaz
Zari's case is similar to Nate's, which is only appropriate since the two dated and their storylines were closely intertwined... until something happened, Zari's whole life changed, she forgot her and Nate's relationship and became an internet influencer instead.
That's not bad, but the current Zari is much different from the previous one, and it's debatable whether she'll ever be the same again. This also means that all the progress Zari has done is lost - for now, at least. Still, to end this list on a positive note, it looks like there's more to Zari than meets the eye and it wouldn't be a big surprise if she managed to become a whole new person as the show goes on.
