A best music of any Zelda game.

Throughout the Legend of Zelda franchise, Link learns a variety of magical songs with effects that help the hero on his way, and plays them on a variety of instruments. In both Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask, Link most often uses the former game's titular ocarina, but with the form-changing masks of the sequel comes several new instruments. As a Deku Scrub, Link uses an expansive set of pipes, while the Zora and Goron masks grant him access to a guitar and set of bongos respectively. Although they can only play a few notes through player input, these instruments are actually quite capable; one player was even able to use the Majora's Mask instruments to cover Toto's Africa.

In much the same way, one Zelda fan has now been able to recreate an iconic tune from the franchise itself: the main theme from Ocarina of Time. YouTube's Ocarina of Time soundtrack used samples in its creation, as many video games do, so repurposing Majora's Mask's own sounds in this way presents a unique form of recursive creation.

Zelda Fan's In-Game Ocarina of Time Cover Is Brilliantly Creative

Like Offbeat Drill, many Zelda fans have embraced the series’ strong use of music in various ways. The internet is full of covers, remixes and even analysis videos. The franchise’s music is clearly exceptional, which in turn has served as inspiration for many musically-inclined fans over the years. In some cases, this can even lead to some very dramatic renditions of popular tunes in honor of the franchise. For example, last year one fan chose to perform OoT’s Bolero of Fire at an active volcano.

This is a brilliantly creative and very unique way of performing a Legend of Zelda song. By layering several parts, Offbeat Drill has been able to build up an authentic sound that perfectly matches the original theme. It has already been demonstrated in the past that the in-game instruments found in Majora’s Mask, and indeed throughout the Zelda franchise, are incredibly versatile, and this new video only proves the point further. Fans will no doubt be left eager for more, whether this be a full cover of the Ocarina of Time theme or another tune entirely. In any case, it seems that the Legend of Zelda series will continue to inspire plenty of new music. Even John Darnielle, the lead singer of The Mountain Goats, improvised a BOTW song after hearing that game's soundtrack.
