A fan-made 3D model of Skull Kid from Zelda: Majora's Mask will release on Nintendo Switch Online on February 25, allowing gamers to relive the series' darkest installment on modern hardware.

As a beloved entry in Nintendo's fantasy adventure saga, The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask borrowed many concepts from Ocarina of Time while also introducing a number of unique mechanics. The game's plot sees the Skull Kid, a young wanderer possessed by a dark relic called Majora's Mask, perform a dark ritual to make the moon come crashing down within three days. This means that players must use a magical song to repeatedly reset the game's clock while completing various tasks around the map. A generally dark atmosphere has made the game stand out amongst its peers, and Zelda fan builds like a Skull Kid cake often pay homage to the dark and disturbing entry.

Paying tribute to Zelda: Majora's Mask, Reddit  tsuda_art has created an amazing 3D render of the iconic Skull Kid. Built using the software Blender, the render recreates a scene where the mischievous figure relaxes while floating ominously above the ground. The animated artwork also includes Tatl and Tael, two fairies who accompany the Skull Kid at the start of the game, and a tree trunk included in the image was directly photoscanned by tsuda_art. Particularly observant viewers can even see Skull Kid's true face behind the antagonistic Majora's Mask.

The dark tone of Zelda: Majora's Mask is largely due to the Skull Kid's presence, and the character's popularity has led fans to hope that Skull Kid will appear in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2. Just as Majora's Mask served as a more atmospheric and unsettling successor to Ocarina of Time, the sequel to Breath of the Wild is said to be much darker than its beloved open-world predecessor. Given the character's reappearance in Zelda: Twilight Princess, it's certainly possible that Skull Kid could show up in a future Legend of Zelda installment to spread mischief.

While not ed as fondly as Ocarina of Time, the dark elements in The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask have turned the title into a Nintendo fan-favorite. The iconic design of the villainous Skull Kid, possessed by the malevolent Majora's Mask and accompanied by Tatl and Tael, has been symbolic of the unsettling adventure. Any gamers who encounter this floating fiend, or tsuda_art's fantastic 3D render of him, should be cautious lest they be transformed into a Deku Scrub.
