The Originals focuses on three of the Mikaelson siblings, who are part of the first-ever vampire family in New Orleans. Legacies follows the life of Hope Mikaelson at a school for supernatural students. However, as a spin-off of a spin-off, a lot of craziness ensues between the two series.
Hope Becomes An Orphan
Hope is the daughter of Klaus and Mikaelson and Hayley Marshall. Her mix of werewolf, vampire, and witch blood has not only made her very powerful but also put a massive target on her.
During the final season of Originals, her mother is murdered by vampires. As for Klaus, he sacrifices himself to protect her from an ancient source of dark magic that will eventually kill her. In Legacies, she is living full time at the Salvatore Boarding School.
Elijah Follows Suit With His Brother
Klaus' sacrifice did not just involve him, but also his brother Elijah. In the series finale of The Originals, Klaus and Elijah come to a crossroads, involving saving Hope from the dark magic inside of her.
Elijah then reveals that he's always wanted to see Klaus get redemption ever since they were transformed into vampires and agrees to die with him. The two then drive two halves of a white oak stake into each other's hearts, resulting in their deaths.
Caroline Gives Birth To Twins Josie and Lizzie
Caroline's transition into the vampire world may not have been the most seamless, but she knows how to rise to the challenge when it's needed. When Alaric's fiancee, Jo, is brutally murdered on the day of their wedding, Caroline soon becomes pregnant with Jo's twin girls.
Despite things not working out between her and Alaric, she takes on the task of motherhood with aplomb and remains fiercely loyal to both Josie and Lizzie. In Legacies, the girls' story is explored further.
The Salvatore School For The Young And Gifted Is Created
This school is the main focus of Legacies. It was originally the home of every member of the Salvatore family and, over the years, it was used as a boarding house for travelers. However, after Stefan's death, Damon gifts the house to Alaric and Caroline to turn into a school for young supernatural beings.
Hope becomes enrolled in the school during the final season of The Originals. In Legacies, she is actively helping Alaric recruit students for the school.
From Waiter To Love Interest
Landon's first appearance was a short one in The Originals but receives a serious upgrade in Legacies. His brief appearance occurs at the Mystic Grill, where he serves Hope and Elijah. They also shared a dance before she left.
In Legacies, it is revealed that he is the foster brother of werewolf Rafael Waithe. He begins to date Hope during the first season of the show and, upon his untimely death, it is discovered that he is a phoenix.
Rebekah Marries Marcel And Plans To Become Human
As an Original Vampire and an Original Upgraded Vampire, Rebekah and Marcel's relationship has been nothing short of turbulent. They have betrayed the other in multiple instances, but never let go of their forbidden love for each other.
At the end of The Originals, Rebekah finally agrees to marry Marcel, but she has plans to take the cure for vampirism and become human. Marcel, who accepts the fact that he can watch his love grow old and eventually die, agrees.
Caroline and Klaus Get Closure For Their Past Relationship
Klaus and Caroline's relationship was a bumpy one, but at least ended amicably. After saving her life, Klaus tries his best to show her the beauty of her new life and shows very intense dedication to her. Caroline, in turn, got to see him in a more empathetic and comionate light.
In The Originals, after a long while apart, they reunite when Hope goes missing. They finally parse through their feelings for each other and Caroline reveals that she never regretted their relationship.
Marcel Leaves New Orleans To The Humans
Along with his accepting of Rebekah's marriage proposal, Marcel decides to leave New Orleans and take whatever remaining vampires left in the city with him, leaving the city to humans.
He also meets with Klaus and his family to prepare for the latter's death. He makes a promise to Hope that he will always help her if she is in need, and he openly its his love for the Mikaelsons.
Caroline Trying To Prevent The Merge From Happening
Because Josie and Lizzie are part of the Gemini Coven, there is an impending ritual that they must go through on their 22nd birthday. The twins would have to perform a spell where their consciousness' merge and only one of them will survive.
Caroline is rarely seen in Legacies because, according to Alaric, she's "always traveling the globe, trying to find a solution." Despite no longer running the school, she is working her hardest to save her daughters.
Freya Mikaelson Is Finally Accepted By Her Family
Freya's life has been anything but easy. After her aunt Dahlia performed a fertility spell on her mother, she is taken away as payment for the spell. After her escape (and over a hundred years of hibernation), she is reunited with her siblings and learns about Hope.
Hope is the catalyst that pushes Freya to fight back against Dahlia and kill her. She is finally welcomed into the family and becomes a caretaker for Hope. She is reunited with her in the second season of Legacies.
