Warning: SPOILERS ahead for Landman episodes 1 & 2!cast of Landman includes Chávez as Ariana, a woman whose family's lives are upended by a tragic event. While it's unclear what her role in the story will be as of writing, the most horrifying event to transpire so far has been an oil rig explosion, resulting in Tommy (Billy Bob Thornton) losing his whole crew except for his son.

Speaking with Screen Rant, Chávez explained how Ariana's story will connect with Cooper's, hinting at a "beautiful" storyline between the pair as the season progresses. She offers hints about what her character is doing, such as raising a child on her own and other "stuff that she never had to do." The actor stops herself before she can spoil any events, however, simply teasing how the story will feel when it finally unfolds. Check out what Chávez had to say below:

What they have is something super special, a special friendship that they're developing in the face of tragedy. That's what brings them together, ultimately, and also, Ariana is trying to navigatehaving to raise this baby, and taking care of the house, and all the stuff that she never had to do. It's a special storyline with Ariana and Cooper, and so we really wanted to do it as authentically as we can, and do it the right way. My goodness, you're just gonna have to wait and see, aren't you? [Laughs] Again, I think this storyline is just beautiful and heartwarming, and there's just so much for you guys to expect. I think the audiences are gonna gonna love it.

What Chávez's Statement Means For Ariana's Appearance In Landman

She's Going To Be A Central Character For Cooper's Story

Ariana hasn't appeared yet in the show, but Chávez's statement indicates just how important she'll be for Tommy's son going forward. Landman episode 2 ended with the main character realizing the inevitable legal issues his company will be facing after both a stolen plane crashed into a tractor-trailer on their land, and the oil rig explosion killed his crew. Given the importance of the tragic accident, it seems likely Ariana was the wife of someone who died during the explosion. This would force her to take on new responsibilities in life, now forced to face them alone.

It's possible Cooper ends up connecting to Ariana out of survivor's guilt, having been the only one to live through the explosion. In episode 2, he briefly forgot if he'd turned a particular knob, something that may have prevented the tragedy from happening. While it appears faulty equipment really was the issue, that might not stop him from trying to make amends with the widow, feeling responsible because he lived. While Landman's oil rig drama will focus on business, the pair's storyline can also offer grounded humanity to the premise.

Our Take On Ariana & Cooper's Story In Landman

The Pair Can Offer Levity From A Stressful Premise

Episodes 1 and 2 of Landman emphasize the stressful situation Tommy is going to be under for the rest of the season, while Cooper continues to recover from his injuries. If he and Ariana's storyline really will be as sweet as Chávez claims, it can offer some levity amid the more stressful situations the show is going to be focusing on. With the pair yet to meet as of episode 2, it seems the show will be slowly building to her appearance, and the subsequent changes that ensue.
