Warning: SPOILERS ahead for Landman episode 5!Cooper's character in Landman, Cooper has had one of the more intense storylines, with episode 5 seeing him help Ariana (Paulina Chavez) with bills and mowing her lawn, feeling guilty for her husband's death in episode 1. However, this draws the ire of her cousins, Manuel (J.R. Villarreal) and Antonio (Octavio Rodriguez), who ambush and beat him in his trailer, leaving him for dead.

Speaking with Screen Rant about Cooper's unknown fate, Lofland indicated his character is still alive, but it may result in his story changing as Landman continues. While he still has a particular path forward, the actor explains how it won't be as smooth, with plenty of consequences, especially surrounding his family's reactions to the incident. However, he remains hopeful for how everything will play out and what his character's storyline in the second half of the season will be. Check out what Lofland had to say below:

There'll definitely be a path change for the direction — maybe not the direction he's going. He's still going to have the same go, but there's going to be some shortcuts, or long roads to get there now. It's not going to be the straight path that it was before, it kind of changes the dynamic of what he's wanting to do. So, there'll be some hurdles there for him. As far as the family, it would be just like if it happened to your family. It's definitely going to take a hit. But at the end of the day, I think everything's going to work out. We're going to come back around, and it'll all even the scales, eventually.

What Lofland's Comments Mean For Cooper As Landman Continues

He Could Go Through A Major Character Shift

Jacob Lofland as Cooper looking concerned in Landman episode 2

Landman episode 5 established plenty of dangers for both Cooper and the Norris family as a whole, with Tommy (Billy Bob Thornton) now dealing with emboldened cartel and repairing his relationship with Angela (Ali Larter). His son's near-death experience could be what sends him over the edge, emphasized by the tragic loss the episode ended with when pipes crushed an oil worker to death. However, it seems the young man will pull through, meaning there's still plenty of story left between him, Ariana, and their respective families.

As Yellowstone ends its fifth season, Taylor Sheridan's Landman emerges as a refreshing change of pace from the Duttons' violence and drama.

Given Tommy's no-nonsense attitude and how much he puts family first, he's not going to stand for what Manuel and Antonio instigated when he finds out they're the culprits. Since Lofland previously teased their relationship as "beautiful," whatever happens between them will be important for their characters. It can also inform his direction moving forward, in whatever tragic and comforting ways his story plays out.
