Is Black Widow In The Loki Trailer? Marvel Teases Lady Loki

The first official trailer for Loki's established penchant for escaping death, fans crafted several outlandish theories on how he might have survived.

Though none of them actually came to , fans nonetheless got their wish for further Loki exploits in the first official Loki trailer, several fans even believed they may have spotted one.

At the 2:03 mark, a figure could be seen sitting on a planet that suspiciously looked like Vormir. Home to the Soul Stone, it was here that Natasha Romanoff ultimately gave her life. Lending further credence to it being Black Widow was that the clothing and hairstyle looked remarkably similar to that worn by her in Avengers: Endgame. The changing of this particular timeline could mean that she wasn't the one to make the sacrifice, that it was just prior, or that she survived in some other way. As interesting or exciting as that might be, however, that's almost certainly not the case. Instead, the overall style actually matches that glimpsed via set photos of Lady Loki, a new (and equally exciting) addition to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

In the comics, Lady Loki is mostly a guise adopted by the God of Mischief as part of his shapeshifting schemes. That could very much still be the case in the Loki series. After all, he will be the more villainous incarnation and need to mature all over again across the episodes. The trailer also teased that Loki will embody the mysterious real-world figure of D.B. Cooper, as well as several others. As such, he could find himself stranded and need to adopt a different form in order to escape or further his endeavors. Equally, given the nature of his time-travel, it could be that he crosses paths with a past or future version of himself that has adopted this guise. Then again, that very same time-travel conceit could mean it's a separate and distinct version from another alternate timeline or a wholly new character altogether. Whatever the case, they will be played by British actress Sophia Di Martino.

Though it's not Black Widow, that doesn't mean that there won't be some kind of connection. For starters, Lady Loki is often more reflective of the traditional Loki, right down to the jet-black hair. The fact she has gone for a short, blonde style could be an intentional way of drawing comparisons to Natasha — either to manipulate certain characters as well as trick the audience. The planet could very much still be Vormir, with the presence of Natasha's body having served as inspiration for a shapeshifted guise. Whatever the case ends up being, however, there's little denying that it's Lady Loki. And the full extent of her role in the series will be revealed when Loki officially drops in May 2021.
