Kingdom Hearts: Melody of Memory is a rhythm game that looks back on the franchise, and celebrates how far its come. Featuring over 140 tracks from both Kingdom Hearts and Disney, there's plenty of content for fans to dive into.

While the rhythmic battles make up the bulk of the game, there are new story elements for fans interested in where Kingdom Hearts goes next. The bad news, however, is that players need to get through all of the World Tour mode before unlocking any of the new story content.

Melody of Memory's focus is certainly more about recapping the series, so fans shouldn't go in expecting too many new developments. Here's how long Kingdom Hearts: Melody of Memory takes to beat.

How Long It Takes to Beat World Tour in Kingdom Hearts: Melody of Memory

Kingdom Hearts Melody of Memory World Tour

World Tour is the main mode in Melody of Memory, and it's the only way to unlock most of the songs in the game. As players get through World Tour they'll unlock each song for Free Play, and other modes. In general, World Tour will take players at least 4-5 hours to complete, just by doing the bare minimum. Completing the final level of World Tour unlocks roughly 15 minutes of new cutscenes that hint at the future of Kingdom Hearts.

There is, however, much more than four hours of content in World Tour mode. Players don't have to get through every level to get to the end, as each section only requires a certain number of stars to move forward. Three stars can be earned on each song by completing optional objectives, like getting a required amount of Excellent ratings or finishing a song with a certain amount of health. These objectives, and three different difficulties, provide a good amount of replayability. There are also a handful of extra challenging songs that can be unlocked by collecting a lot of stars.

Players could easily spend upwards of ten hours with World Tour alone, and that's not even including the co-op and versus modes, as well as the extra Memory Dive songs that can be synthesized. Fans may be a bit disappointed by the lack of new story in Melody of Memory, but the real fun of the game lies in reliving the series' iconic moments through its music. It's a stop-gap title, before whatever comes next for Kingdom Hearts.

Kingdom Hearts: Melody of Memory is currently available on PS4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch.
