  • The King of the Hill revival on Hulu will be entirely animated.

King of the Hill gets the live-action treatment in surreal new images. The Fox title was an adult animated series that ran for 13 seasons from 1997 to 2010. Created by Greg Daniels and Mike Judge, the main King of the Hill voice cast included Judge, Kathy Najimy, Pamela Adlon, Johnny Hardwick, Stephen Root, Brittany Murphy, and Toby Huss. Over the course of its 13 seasons, the series had over 250 episodes.

A recent Reddit post from @DarkSkyMonkey gives an AI-aided look at what King of the Hill would look like if it were in live-action. The post included several images of the King of the Hill characters as if they were rendered in live-action. Check it out below:

Characters covered included Hank, Bobby, Dale, Luanne, Bill, Peggy, and Redcorn. Bobby seems the most realistic, transformed into a young boy in a cafeteria standing in front of a plate of food. Dale wears his classic exterminator uniform, while Redcorn is shirtless and exaggeratedly chiseled.

Should King Of The Hill Get A Live-Action Adaptation?

The Series Is Already Getting An Animated Revival

A King of the Hill live-action adaptation has not been made, but the series does have an revival. Several years ago, it was revealed that original creators Daniels and Judge were in talks about a potential revival. The revival show would take place fifteen years after the conclusion of King of the Hill, which is roughly the same amount of time that has ed since the show went off the air. The series was subsequently picked up by Hulu, and has set a tentative release window for early 2025.

Therefore, King of the Hill will get another iteration, albeit not a live-action reimagination. As far as the reports go, the King of the Hill reboot will be entirely animated. Looking at the AI rendition of an imagined live-action version of the show, this choice is probably a positive one. The live-action version of the characters looks more uncanny, whereas the animated form allows the creators to exaggerate features for stylistic and comedic effect.

King of the Hill is a hilarious, beautifully grounded animated sitcom. There are plenty of iconic episodes to watch before the reboot arrives on Hulu.

For now, King of the Hill will stay in the animated universe, but that does not mean that is where the series will remain forever. Though mostly seen in movies, creating live-action projects out of animated properties is a growing trend in recent years. Disney's live-action adaptations have inundated theaters, with remade titles including Beauty and the Beast, Cinderella, The Little Mermaid, and the live-action adaptation of Moana. With King of the Hill getting renewed life on Hulu next year, it is not out of the realm of possibility that a live-action version could be floated.

From the creator of Beavis and Butthead comes King of the Hill, an animated comedy series that follows the misadventures of Texan native propane salesman Hank Hill and his family and friends. Between struggling to understand his son, Bobby, keep his wife happy, and find enough time to drink beer and mow his lawn, Hank will realize the simple American life is a bit harder to grasp than he thought, as everyone around him is every bit as eccentric as one would expect. From a ladies' man who speaks a million words a minute to a paranoid conspiracy theorist, Hank's friends keep his life more than a little bit interesting.
