Comedian Kevin Hart recently signed a long-term deal with agreement was extended this time last year. Hart's deal is expected to have a similar impact, his previous films in total having earned over $4 billion in the global box office.
In an interview with Deadline about the deal, Hart said that he is "...excited to act in and produce cutting-edge films with Netflix" and that he has high hopes of his production company becoming "synonymous with first-class entertainment and narratives." Netflix made a request of Hart within the agreement that he is expected to appear as the starring role in a minimum of four of the films, his face and name having found a well-received home on the platform.
Hart's most recent comedy special Kevin Hart: Zero F**ks Given, was released under Netflix, ending the year as the platform's number one comedy special of 2020. More than 21 million s logged on to stream the special throughout the initial four weeks of its release to see Hart crack jokes about fame, COVID-19, and cancel culture. As of now, HartBeat's repertoire has released several stand-up specials and a satire series of The Real Housewives, titled Real Husbands of Hollywood.
The first project expected to come from the production-platform partnership is an unsuspected turn to drama, in the limited series starring Kevin Hart and Wesley Snipes, True Story.
