Of all the police procedurals in the massive Dick Wolf universe, my personal favorite is the CBS crime drama, FBI. The crack team of special agents led by Jubal Valentine (Jeremy Sisto) since season 2 have all seen their share of harrowing moments, but Tiffany Wallace, played by Katherine Renee Kane, had more than she could handle when her close friend, Hobbs, was killed in season 6.

I won’t lie — I was really bummed out when Kane decided to leave the series in season 7, since Tiffany was one of my favorite characters. Thankfully, FBI did her Tiffany justice by giving her an arc that made her exit from the show emotionally satisfying.

How Katherine Renee Kane's Tiffany Was Written Off FBI

Tiffany's Trauma Over Losing Hobbs Continued To Affect Her

In the season 7 premiere of FBI, Tiffany is working on her final case. Her choice to retire from the New York City branch of the FBI was a result of her altercation with her former partner’s killer, whom she shot and killed in season 6. Now partnered with Scola (John Boyd), Tiffany’s last case involves the pair protecting an Iranian woman and her daughter from terrorists.

Not only was Kane’s performance extremely moving, but the scene humanized her character and gave her a peaceful exit.

When Scola receives a stab wound during the investigation, Tiffany stays by his side until help comes instead of chasing the culprit. Going against protocol only further cemented Tiffany’s decision to leave. In her final scene, Tiffany shares a conversation with Maggie, in which she tearfully its how much Hobbs’s death affected her. Shooting Hobbs's killer, Hakim, didn't give her the peace she was seeking, and ultimately, Tiffany realizes that the event only traumatized her further, making her unfit for service.

Would it make sense for Maggie to leave FBI?

Maggie leaving FBI could make sense if the actress is ready to leave the show, or the writers want to introduce major plot shifts. She’s a central character, but a temporary or strategic departure could open doors for new storylines and character arcs. However, her dynamic with OA and the team is a key part of the show’s success. If done thoughtfully, her exit could be impactful, but losing her long-term might risk weakening the show’s emotional core.

As heartbreaking as her departure was, this scene was a perfect farewell for Tiffany. Not only was Kane’s performance extremely moving, but it also humanized her character and gave her a peaceful exit. I love that Tiffany will finally find peace by moving to Georgia to help with her sister’s cafe, rather than continuing down a spiral of death and tragedy.

Katherine Renee Kane Left FBI To Pursue "New Creative Endeavors"

Kane Said That She Is "Excited For The Future"

After being a regular part of the FBI cast for four years, I was sad to say goodbye to Katherine Renee Kane and her character. Although Scola's new partner, Dani Rhodes, may have been worth the wait, there’s no one else who can quite fill the space that Kane left behind. I can’t be too mad, though. After the announcement that Kane was leaving the series, she told Deadline that her exit from the show was her own decision:

“It was time to look towards new creative endeavors. I’m excited for the future and wish the show all the best."

Pursuing new projects is typically why an actor chooses to leave a show, and FBI showrunner Mike Weiss was quick to reassure fans that he never wrote her out of the series, saying (via People),

“There’s always a risk and things happen. But we really crossed our fingers, because she’s such a great character, such a great actress as well, and the dynamic is so important, we thought, between Scola and Tiff. It would have been a real shame if we couldn’t give them a proper goodbye."

It seems only natural that a talented actor like Kane would want to move on to try new and exciting projects, especially after playing the same character on FBI for years. While there isn’t any current news on what Kane will appear in next, I, for one, will definitely be keeping an eye out.
