Kang the Conqueror has been defeated many times in Marvel Comics, which spells good news for Earth's Mightiest Heroes in Marvel Studios' Avengers: The Kang Dynasty. Kang the Conqueror is one of Marvel's most recognizable and formidable supervillains, plaguing the likes of the Avengers, the Fantastic Four, and a plethora of other prominent heroes for decades since his debut in Marvel Comics' 1964 release of The Avengers #8. Kang's access to advanced technology from the 31st Century has allowed him to travel throughout time, creating an infinite number of variants in a multitude of alternate timelines, which makes him a terrifying addition to the MCU's Multiverse Saga.

Jonathan Majors portrays Kang the Conqueror in the MCU, debuting as He Who Remains in Phase 4's Loki season 1 before introducing the Conqueror himself in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. Kang has proven himself to be a powerful adversary, despite being bested by Scott Lang and Hope van Dyne in the MCU's Phase 5. Kang has already spoken about waging war on various Avengers from alternate realities, but his defeat in Quantumania suggests he isn't untouchable. Avengers: The Kang Dynasty is expected to pit the MCU's heroes against Kang and his variants, and his many defeats in Marvel Comics could spell good news for the MCU's New Avengers.

Deadpool didn't play a part in Marvel Comics original Secret Wars event in 1984, as the Merc-with-a-Mouth didn't debut until 1991, but 2015's Deadpool's Secret Secret Wars retconned this. Set during 1984's Secret Wars event, Deadpool's Secret Secret Wars saw Wade Wilson go up against Kang the Conqueror on Battleworld in an effort to protect Captain America. While Kang almost gets the better of Deadpool, the latter easily takes down the supervillain with a swift kick, something that would play out hilariously in the MCU.

The Hulk

However, after failing, the Hulk is returned to 1971, and Kang is sucked into limbo. The Hulk's brute strength meant he was quite easily able to take on Kang the Conqueror in Marvel Comics.

Cable

1998's Cable #57 saw the eponymous hero and his mentor, Blaquesmith, go up against a time-traveling Rama-Tut. After conquering Ancient Egpyt, Kang (as Rama-Tut) traveled into the future but came face-to-face with the future mutant soldier, easily being taken down by the combined might of Cable and Blaquesmith. Kang didn't lose his life in this battle but escaped into the time stream, allowing him to continue on his conquest.

Rick Jones

Kang the Conqueror vs. Rick Jones in Marvel Comics

Although not having any superpowers to speak of, Rick Jones was a close friend to the Hulk, Captain Marvel, Captain America, and Genis-Vell in Marvel Comics. His connections meant that when Kang the Conqueror came knocking in 1998's Avengers Forever storyline, Jones was able to absorb the Destiny Force and form a new team of Avengers from a variety of different timelines. Battling Immortus with the help of another Kang the Conqueror variant, Jones and the Avengers manage to defeat Immortus - and later defeat the other Kang variant, who had intentions to betray his temporary allies.

Using the mystical Ebony Blade, the Black Knight was able to easily dispatch Kang, sending him back into the time stream and earning the Black Knight a position as an official member of the Avengers.

Thor

Kang the Conqueror vs. Thor in Marvel Comics

While Thor's battles with Kang have usually been as a member of the Avengers, Thor has also battled Kang the Conqueror and several of his variants on solo adventures, including in 1967's Thor #140. During this story, Immortus is able to trick Thor into u Mjolnir's power by traveling through time, leaving Thor practically defenseless. Unfortunately, this didn't work, and Ahura ended up killing Kang and assuming his position, leading to an epic and heartbreaking battle between Ahura and the Inhumans.

Havok

Kang the Conqueror vs. Havok in Marvel Comics

The Uncanny Avengers was a long-running series in Marvel Comics that debuted in 2012, featuring a new team of Avengers, known as the Avengers Unity Squad, which consisted of old Avengers and X-Men. During one storyline, Kang the Conqueror sends the powerful Apocalypse Twins after the Avengers Unity Squad, and they did manage to eliminate most of the team. However, trapped in an alternate timeline was Havok, who took on Kang after losing his daughter while trying to reconstruct his reality. Easily defeating Kang, Havok rebuilt the Earth while the Conqueror escaped through the timestream.

Vision

Kang the Conqueror vs. Vision in Marvel Comics

Kang the Conqueror and Vision have battled many times in Marvel Comics, often with the latter being featured as a member of the Avengers. Kang's mastery over advanced technology makes Vision the perfect adversary to the supervillain, as Vision is perhaps the only piece of technology that Kang can't control and predict. Vision has regularly bested Kang the Conqueror, leading to a variety of storylines that could be adapted brilliantly into the MCU.

Spider-Man

Kang the Conqueror vs. Spider-Man in Marvel Comics

During 1964's Avengers #11, Kang the Conqueror creates a robotic copy of Spider-Man to infiltrate and destroy the Avengers. However, in order to prove his worth to the new team, Spider-Man arrives and quickly defeats the robotic Spider-Man, shaming Kang the Conqueror and earning a spot among the Avengers. This was a smaller crossover storyline for the Avengers - right at the start of their Marvel Comics career - but showed the power of Spider-Man very early on.

Agatha Harkness & Scarlet Witch

Kang the Conqueror vs. Scarlet Witch in Marvel Comics

The Scarlet Witch is widely regarded as one of the most powerful characters both in Marvel Comics and in the MCU, but also as one of the most mentally fragile. During one heartwrenching storyline, Immortus manipulated the Scarlet Witch after learning a harrowing truth about her children, but the Scarlet Witch was saved by another powerful witch: Agatha Harkness. Together, Wanda Maximoff and Agatha defeated Immortus, causing his Time Keeper overlords to imprison him rather than allowing the villain to escape once again.

Moon Knight

Kang the Conqueror vs. Moon Knight in Marvel Comics

Moon Knight's roots in Ancient Egypt mean that he is intrinsically connected to Kang the Conqueror - or rather his Rama-Tut variant, an Egyptian Pharaoh. Moon Knight and Kang the Conqueror battle several times in Marvel Comics, most recently in 2019's Moon Knight Annual Vol. 2 #1. This storyline saw Kang try and rewrite time in his own image but was tempted into battle with his old enemy Khonshu. It's left up to Moon Knight, Khonshu's avatar, to fix time and defeat Kang the Conqueror, which he does very effectively.

X-Men & USS Enterprise-D Crew

Kang the Conqueror vs. X-Men and Enterprise-D crew in Marvel Comics

Following the events of the 1996 film Star Trek: First , Marvel Comics featured a crossover between the Next Generation Star Trek crew and the X-Men, pitting them against Kang the Conqueror. Kang's scheme to bring the USS Enterprise-D crew to the present day didn't go to plan, as the crew teamed up with the mutant X-Men to battle Kang. Eventually, Kang escaped into the time stream - as he regularly does when defeated - and the Star Trek crew returned to their own time period, ending one of Marvel Comics' stranger crossovers.

The Fantastic Four

Kang the Conqueror vs. Fantastic Four in Marvel Comics

The Fantastic Four had the privilege of being the first superhero team to take on and defeat Kang the Conqueror. After Kang traveled through time and conquered Ancient Egypt, the Fantastic Four found themselves also traveling through time and battled Rama-Tut, ousting him from his throne. The Fantastic Four returned to their own time after Reed Richards battled his distant relative, and Kang escaped into the time stream where he would become the Scarlet Centurion, but this was the beginning of an incredibly long rivalry.

The Avengers

Kang the Conqueror vs. Captain America in Marvel Comics

Although the Fantastic Four battled Kang on many occasions, the villain's primary enemy was the Avengers. Kang battled various iterations of the team multiple times, most notably in 2001's Kang Dynasty event, which saw Kang and his son, Marcus, a.k.a. Scarlet Centurion, attack the Earth and its heroes. The Avengers banded together to defeat and imprison Kang the Conqueror, and since this storyline shares a name with Phase 6's Avengers: The Kang Dynasty, it's possible a similar storyline could be told in the MCU.

Immortus

Kang the Conqueror vs. Immortus in Marvel Comics

Kang the Conqueror's worst enemy has always been himself, and since there are infinite variants of himself ready to attack each other, he can be seen in battle against himself fairly regularly. Out of all his variants, however, Immortus is probably the most hostile towards Kang the Conqueror. Immortus is a variant of Kang from the future who is under the employ of the Time Keepers, and although he is regularly seen fighting various heroes, Immortus has a hatred for his younger self that leads him to defeat Kang on multiple occasions - though this never really sticks, as Immortus' own existence proves Kang survives.

Iron Lad

Kang the Conqueror vs. Iron Lad in Marvel Comics

Another variant of Kang the Conqueror who notably defeated the supervillain is Iron Lad, a younger iteration of Nathaniel Richards who suited up as the superhero and helped to found the Young Avengers. In an effort to avoid his destiny to become Kang the Conqueror, Iron Lad tried to do good, and eventually killed his future self. However, he eventually had to fulfill his destiny, travel to the future, and become Kang the Conqueror, though this storyline could take a very different turn if Iron Lad is introduced to the MCU.

Will The Avengers Be Able To Defeat Kang In Avengers 5?

Jonathan Majors' Kang the Conqueror will battle the Avengers in The Kang Dynasty

Jonathan Majors' Kang the Conqueror may have been defeated at the end of Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, but that doesn't mean that the threat of Kang is gone completely from the MCU. Quantumania's mid-credits scene introduced the Council of Kangs into the MCU, led by Immortus, Rama-Tut, and a version of the Centurion, each of whom is expected to appear in future MCU projects, particularly Phase 6's Avengers: The Kang Dynasty. With Kang's variants now aware that the Avengers have started meddling with the multiverse, they'll surely be on the warpath, which poses a major problem for the MCU's new Avengers team.

While many of the characters who have managed to defeat Kang the Conqueror in Marvel Comics haven't been introduced into the MCU yet, several heroes could appear in The Kang Dynasty with the power to defeat Kang. The Hulk, Moon Knight, Agatha Harkness, Spider-Man, Thor, and Deadpool could all return in the Phase 6 crossover film. It's also possible that the Fantastic Four and the X-Men could make an appearance in Avengers: The Kang Dynasty, helping a new team of Avengers take on the almost-all-powerful supervillain, though it remains to be seen who will land the final blow against Kang the Conqueror in the MCU.
