Warning! Spoilers ahead for Kang the Conqueror #4
In a preview for Marvel Comics' and former Moon Knight) may lead to some major rifts and complications, even beyond the fact of their love being a constant in the timestream.
Rather than leading the TVA as seen in the MCU's Loki, the comics' Ravonna Renslayer was a princess of one of the last civilizations in the future Kang had yet to conquer, and he soon fell in love with the tenacious woman. While Ravonna was sadly murdered by one of Kang's rogue generals, that wasn't the end of their story. Thanks to the wonderfully confusing power that is Kang's ability to time travel, the conqueror rescued a Ravonna variant from a timeline where Kang was murdered instead of her, taking her back to the prime timeline to rule by his side. Even so, Kang and Ravonna have still had a tumultuous relationship with one another despite their love, and the two have even fought one another in the past when Ravonna took the moniker Terminatrix.
Marvel's new Kang the Conquerer has offered new twists and turns while depicting Kang's origins, seeing the young Nathaniel seeking to become a better Kang by traveling through time and learning from the mistakes of his older self while also meeting versions of Ravonna. While he first meets her at the beginning of time as a member of a prehistoric tribe, he later meets her during his older self's reign as Rama-Tut in ancient Egypt, where she is serving as an agent of the moon god Khonshu before being killed by Rama-Tut himself. Now, the future Kang has traveled to the far future in Kang the Conquerer #4 (from Jackson Lanzing, Collin Kelly, Carlos Magno, and Espen Grundetjern) only to meet a new version of Ravonna. Enjoy Marvel's preview of the issue:
Despite the incredibly confusing nature of Kang's romance with Ravonna across time, he wastes no time reconnecting with this new Renslayer, who's become a conqueror in her own right in the far future. Furthermore, the synopsis seems to indicate that he'll be determined to make sure that this version of his love doesn't die, no matter what that means for the timeline. Perhaps Ravonna's death is immutable as soon as Kang becomes involved in her various lives?
Unstoppable force meets immovable object as Nathaniel Richards' mission to change his timeline slams into a horrible inevitability: the tragic fate of Kang's great love, Ravonna Renslayer. Can young Kang avert catastrophe and find his way to a better future? Or is he doomed to repeat the same cycle of tragedy and violence for all eternity?
The complexity of Kang's romance with Ravonna is vast, and it's possible that this new conquering Renslayer might choose to clash with Kang rather than make an attempt to live happily ever after (provided she survives their meeting.) Despite being crazy, confusing, and time-distorted, there is something sweet about Kang and Ravonna always finding one another in some way, shape, or form. Hopefully, Kang the Conqueror can find a way to save Ravonna from her fate (even if it means she rises to become his rival) when the comic hits retailers November 17.
