after 2018's Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom and finds the human world overrun by the dinosaurs that were let loose at the end of the previous film. Many familiar faces return to solve the crisis, including Jurassic Park stars Laura Dern, Sam Neill, and Jeff Goldblum.
As the former park operations manager of Jurassic World, Dearing was at first an uppity executive who cared more for profits than dinosaurs, a persona illustrated by her sophisticated, professional attire. A pair of beige stilettos became an integral part of her costume in the first Jurassic World film, causing a stir among fans when Dearing memorably dashed through the jungle while wearing the impractical shoes. Some have even gone on to criticize Dearing's choice of footwear in Jurassic World, with just as many choosing to mock it. Howard has continued to field questions about the shoes ever since, saying the heels were her decision for the character.
The shoe question comes up once again in a recent Jurassic World Dominion interview with E! News' Daily Pop. Except this time, Howard confirms that Dearing won't be bringing back her beige heels for one final adventure. Howard said:
"You will be gravely disappointed if you came to Dominion to see me in heels ‘cause it doesn't happen. Not once."
The fact that Jurassic World fans are still bringing up Dearing's heels from the first film can be construed two different ways. While some may find it annoying or perhaps even sexist, others may dub the scene as an iconic moment for the Jurassic World trilogy. No one can deny that it has gone on to be a very memorable part of the franchise, even if it drew divisive reactions. Regardless of what others may think, Howard has consistently defended the scene, and the creative decision deserves some respect, especially when it was made by the actress herself.
When it comes to Dearing's overall arc, however, ditching the heels altogether in Jurassic World Dominion speaks volumes about her as a character. This means that Dearing has fully shaken off her past and has become more comfortable with her identity as one who advocates for dinosaurs rather than exploits them. Using indirect details like clothing choices — or, in this case, footwear — is a hallmark of good storytelling and a clever way to subtly illustrate character development. Dearing will Chris Pratt's Owen Grady and the Jurassic Park trio when Jurassic World: Dominion hits theaters.
