According to Jonathan Majors' lawyer, reports of on-set abuse by Creed III actor can be traced back to method acting. Majors has risen into new prominence with his role as the current overarching villain in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Kang the Conqueror. He also recently starred in Creed III as Damian Anderson, which helped to launch him even further into the limelight. However, the actor has been facing serious accusations of abuse and general misconduct, casting an uncertain cloud over his future as a prominent actor. Recently, multiple sources spoke to Majors reportedly engaging in abusive and violent behavior on set.
Now, Dustin Pusch, Majors' lawyer, submitted a statement to IndieWire to deny their claims and explained the reason behind the actor's alleged actions. Pusch specifically cites Majors' method acting as an explanation for the alleged behavior but insists that Majors has never abused anyone. Check out his statement below:
“Jonathan Majors vehemently denies Rolling Stone’s false allegations that he physically, verbally, or emotionally abused anyone, let alone any of his past romantic partners… The allegations that Mr. Majors got physical with or physically intimidated anyone on any movie set are downright false. Everyone who has worked with Mr. Majors knows that he employs an immersive Method acting style, and while that can be misconstrued as rudeness at times, those who know Mr. Majors and work in the industry have attested to his dedication to his craft as well as his kindness.”
The Allegations Against Jonathan Majors Explained
Majors was arrested on March 25 and was charged with assault, harassment, and strangulation. His lawyers have insisted that their evidence would prove Major's complete innocence and that he was the victim in the alleged incident. Since the actor's initial arrest, the alleged victim since received a temporary order of protection against Majors, which prevents him from ing her in any way prior to the court date.
Reports later emerged that Majors has allegedly been misbehaving throughout his career. Insiders went to Rolling Stone to report physical, verbal, and emotional abuse on the set of Majors' various productions, which is what Pusch is using Majors' method acting style to explain. The alleged abuse reportedly has been ongoing for over a decade.
The allegations present a serious question for the MCU going forward since he has become the face of the MCU as Kang the Conqueror. He is meant to be the overarching villain of several phases of the universe, and the MCU will now need to decide whether to recast the actor. Majors' next court date will take place on August 3 and will likely decide his future.
