Spoiler warning for Superman: Son of Kal-El #14Their latest heart-warming reunion proves that Robin are DC's greatest friendship. Even though Jon Kent and Damian Wayne have been having their own separate—if world-spanning—adventures, they'll never forget their past as the Super-Sons duo. But now the two best friends have ed forces again because not even time, space, or dictators can separate them.

Though Jon Kent has taken on the Superman mantle in his father's absence, he began his superhero career as the young Superboy, often teaming up with Damian Wayne's Robin in the Super-Sons title. Though the two began as reluctant allies, the Super-Sons grew to be close friends. A lot has happened in the years since the original Super-Sons series ended—including Superboy being aged up to 17 and taking over as Superman, Robin taking over Lazarus Island, and Jon Kent coming out as bisexual—but every time the friends reunite, fans are show that there's nothing to fear; Superman and Robin will be friends for life.

Their latest team-up comes on the cusp of Superman's battle with the dictator of Gamorra, Henry Bendix, in Superman: Son of Kal-El by Tom Taylor, Cian Tormey, Federico Blee, and Dave Sharpe. As Superman gathers his allies before the battle, Robin shows up seemingly out of nowhere. He's affronted at first that Jon would plan on "leading an assault on a dictatorship without [him]." But Jon sweeps him up in a joyful hug, both smiling through it, despite Damian's typical protests.

Superman and Robin Hug

As Jon and Damian continue to grow up, so too does their friendship continue to strengthen into something certain and confident. The young boys from Super-Sons would rarely stop bickering enough to appreciate each other's company, never mind celebrate their reunions with a giant hug. It's especially notable that Robin, who is typically snarky and stingy with his affection, "allows" the hug to happen. This moment, too, comes at the heels of Jon witnessing Damian's death in an alternate future last issue, as he references in these same s.

Super-Sons fans should be relieved to see that no matter how many changes are made to these characters, their friendship is rock solid and certainly one of DC's greatest pairs. It's no wonder these versions of Superman and Robin get along so well; DC fans need only look at Dick Grayson and Clark Kent's decades-long friendship to know that this particular team-up has a strong historical base. But Damian and Jon are a unique pair all on their own, and they have a bright future together as Superman and Robin—and beyond.
