With the introduction of several more shocking Stands in the second part of JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Stone Ocean, fans that the earlier parts of the long-running anime also feature Stands that are as terrifying as they are awesome.
From Stands that are just scary powerful and difficult to fight to Stands that condemn their victims to horrifying fates, both the villains and heroes of JoJo have some frightening powers at their disposal.
Aqua Necklace
Water is as terrifying as it is beautiful, and s of water-based Stands have no shortage of ways to dispatch enemies. While Golden Wind's Clash, a killer shark that can change size and hunt victims through almost any body of water, is nothing to sneeze at, Diamond is Unbreakable's Angelo Katagiri took it a step further with Aqua Necklace, which lacks Clash's limitations.
Already a creepy creature covered in way too many eyes, this Stand can hide in glasses of water to kill from the inside out any unsuspecting victim who drinks it and move stealthily around by transforming into water vapor. Angelo is incredibly smart but uses his intelligence only to think up creative ways to kill with his Stand, and oh, how many there are.
Strength
Jotaro and company discover very quickly that not only can Stands take any form of any size, but their wielders don't necessarily have to be human. Forever the orangutan lures them into his grasp by disguising Strength as an abandoned ship. Its victims don't have time to put together what's happening before being killed by Forever manipulating the ship's machinery or absorbed into the ship itself.
Forever himself is intensely creepy, with animal strength and human intelligence. He hides his status as a Stand by pretending to be a mindless animal, but when the facade drops, he proves to be as arrogant and sadistic as his master Dio.
Sethan
Alessi stands out as reprehensible even among Dio's minions. Nothing delights him more than hurting children, so he takes utter glee in Sethan's effect, which de-ages anyone under its shadow. The longer its victims are stuck in the shadow, the younger they become until they are wiped out of existence altogether.
Stand s who only unlocked their Stands as adults will lose them and become helpless under Sethan (unless, of course, you're Jotaro, who even as a little kid was one of the strongest anime characters). An innocent bystander caught in their battle is de-aged down to a fetus and nearly dies that way before Jotaro and Polnareff defeat Alessi.
Baby Face
All of La Squadra di Esecuzioni have horrifyingly unique methods of murder, and Melone is no exception. Baby Face creates homunculi called Juniors that act as implacable assassins that no target could possibly anticipate. These Juniors kill by breaking the victim's body down into pieces.
Even worse? To create them, Melone must take a DNA sample from a woman with qualities he wants to imbue the Junior with and secretly impregnates her with the programmed creature. The unwitting host, who's just had to deal with Melone's predation, doesn't realize what's happening before the Junior emerges fully formed and promptly dissembles her.
Diver Down
As anime-only fans are discovering, Stone Ocean's Stands are heavy on body horror, and Narciso Anasui's Stand is no exception. Diver Down, as its name suggests, has the power to "dive" down into things, whether to hide in them or to alter them from the inside. One of Anasui's favorite things to do with it is sending it deep into people's insides and start changing things around.
Kenzou is an evil enough guy that not even the worst of the worst at Green Dolphin Street Prison want anything to do with him, but it's still horrifying to watch Anasui use Diver Down to destroy his body, breaking and rearranging his bones inside him. It's a mess worthy of one of the scariest body horror anime.
Notorious B.I.G.
Of the Stands and their s, Carne and his Notorious B.I.G. are the most enigmatic, which only makes them creepier. Viewers know nothing about Carne before Mista shoots him dead, but what sort of person must he have been to have such a vicious Stand that's only activated by his murder?
Notorious B.I.G. is a hungry, fleshy blob monster that attacks anything that moves in its sight, infecting and consuming them to grow itself larger. Worse, since its is dead, it can't be killed: the most the team can do to contain it and trap it in a tempestuous part of the ocean, where it keeps attacking and sinking ships that come too close.
Purple Haze
As the manifestation of all Fugo's violent rage and disgust at the people who abused him as a child, Purple Haze is a horror and a half, and that's not just talking about its unsettling appearance. It's a floating biohazard of a Stand with limitless potential for slaughter, and Fugo only brings it out when he absolutely has to. Even his hardened gangster teammates are terrified at the sight of it.
Purple Haze emits gas containing a flesh-eating virus that kills any living thing it touches within thirty seconds. Unless its victims have a Stand that can counter it, they're out of luck: there is no cure. Even Fugo isn't immune, and he has a very difficult time controlling it, so being its or ally isn't enough to keep someone safe.
The World
Time-based Stands are the scariest in the show. While Diavolo and King Crimson are icily, terrifyingly efficient killers, they're hampered by their short range, inability to attack during the time erased, and reliance on Epitaph to cover up their weak spots. The World is not only fast and strong in combat but has a wide range for a Stand of its type and its ever-evolving ability to freeze time for everyone but Dio is a horrifying game-changer.
Dio might be an anime character that became a hilarious meme, and he might rely largely on his minions to fight for him, but when his opponents come face to face with him, he delights in using The World to toy with his victims like a cat with a mouse. Polnareff, having no idea what's happening to him, is terrified when Dio uses it to keep moving him back down the stairs when he tries to confront him. Diavolo strategically disorients his opponents to get an immediate killing blow in, Dio is out to scare them to death first.
Killer Queen
Could the Stand of a remorseless serial killer be anything but utterly horrifying? A silent Stand with a design evoking predators and death, Killer Queen is not physically powerful, but only because it's made for murder, not combat. It turns anything it touches — including and especially people — into bombs that leave no bodies or evidence pointing to Yoshikage Kira when they go off and kill his victims.
Its additional abilities are equally scary. Sheer Heart Attack is extremely hard to damage and attacks with heat-seeking explosives, and Bites the Dust protects Kira's identity and lets him undo any mistakes he makes by turning back time an hour, erasing everyone's memories of the old timeline.
Gold Experience Requiem
It's exceptionally lucky for the world that Giorno Giovanna has a kind and just Joestar heart. If he were more like his father Dio, he could do much more terrifying things than take over the Italian mafia to purge it of drug trafficking and child abuse. Gold Experience starts off intimidating, able to transform, create, and incapacitate through the use of life energy. But once it evolves into Gold Experience Requiem, it gains the power to put its victims through an eternity of terror.
Diavolo finds this out firsthand, trapped between time and space in a permanent loop of agonizing deaths, from stabbing to car accidents to being cut open on an autopsy table. Unlike most other Stands' victims, he will never be put out of his misery with a final death: Gold Experience Requiem's judgment of his evil deeds was to subject him to "an end without end."
