The popular manga Dio Brando and Kira Yoshikage, have been iconic and terrifying, the eighth part’s main villain did not live up to those standards.

Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure: Jojolion is the eighth part of the series and follows the amnesiac Josuke Higashikata as he tries to uncover the secrets of his past. Along the way, he clashes with the mysterious Rock Humans over a magical plant called the Rokakaka fruit, which performs an equivalent exchange on anyone who eats it, healing one part of their body while turning another part to stone. These Rock Humans are silicon-based life forms who spend the first part of their life parasitically leaching off other animals before secretly infiltrating human society. Most of the Rock Humans have powerful Stands, a form of superpowers heavily featured in many parts of Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure. Their leader is eventually revealed to be Tooru, the ex-boyfriend of Josuke’s romantic interest Yasuho who has one of the most powerful Stands in the entire series.

Tooru’s Stand is Wonder of U, a power that can manifest itself as a separate entity named Satoru Akefu. Satoru masquerades as the head doctor of a local hospital and can take the appearance of an old man. However, in its Stand form it takes the appearance of a metallic faceless humanoid, which is fairly unsettling. But even scarier than the Stand’s appearance is its ability. If anyone tries to approach Tooru or his Stand, they will be swept up in the flow of calamity and a terrible fate will befall them. This calamity can be a natural, albeit unlucky, occurrence like a plane door falling from the sky and hitting someone or an unnatural occurrence such as being eviscerated by raindrops. This ability can be triggered by the slightest provocation. Even just looking at the Stand can be determined as an approach and invite disaster.

Given the terrifying and insidious nature of Tooru’s Stand, he could have easily been one of the most intimidating villains in the series. However, he was only introduced in the final arc of the series, depriving him of a lot of the buildup that other Jojo's villains have had. In addition, while his Stand wreaks havoc during that arc, Josuke ultimately defeats him through a convenient power-up, which was rather anticlimactic.

A lot of the problems with Tooru can be traced back to the larger issues that plague the end of Jojolion. The ending is extremely rushed and doesn’t resolve many of the plot threads that Araki had previously set up. While this may all get fixed in the Part 9, the damage has already been done to Tooru. This is a shame, because if Tooru had been handled better he could have been the most horrifying villain in Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure.
