Summary
- Acca Howler, the new villain of The JOJOLands, directly contrasts other villains in JoJo's Bizarre Adventure by being a flamboyant and public figure.
- Howler is also depicted as not being as untouchable as previous villains.
- Howler's personality makes him a foil to Diavolo, continuing the contrast between The JOJOLands and Golden Wind.
JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure famously changes the kind of story it tells with every new installment, and with that change, there’s always a new type of villain for the heroes to deal with. Naturally, there will be some overlap in powers and personalities, but someone can always go into a new part and expect to see a main villain completely different from whoever they just finished reading about.
The JOJOLands is the latest installment of JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure, and after over a year of mystery, chapter #17 might have finally revealed the main villain of the story, Acca Howler. Howler has only been around for one chapter, so there isn’t a lot to go on regarding his character, but what little has been shown makes it clear that JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure is continuing the tradition of completely changing how its villains act.
Said change also plays well into the general idea of The JOJOLands, and it’s a great change to see, overall. That difference in writing promises a lot of interesting developments surrounding Howler in future chapters.
How JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure Part 9’s New Villain Is Different From The Rest
Most JoJo villains tend to be recluses who rarely interact with others and keep their true selves hidden, but just from a single chapter, The JOJOLands establishes Acca Howler as a flamboyant and expressive villain whose actions are very much public, a stark contrast to how the villains are usually depicted. Previous chapters depicted HOWLER as a company very publicly known for illegal activities, so Acca Howler’s characterization can be seen as a natural extension of that.
Acca Howler also strikes a contrast with previous villains through how easy it is to deal with him. In every other part, the villains can only be dealt with by the heroes defeating them in a fight, but Howler can be defeated simply by bankrupting him without Jodio ever needing to fight him. That’s not to say a fight won’t happen, as Howler has already taken deadly measure to counter the interference in his affairs, but it does show that Howler is far less invincible a villain than villains like Dio or Diavolo.
The JOJOLands Continues To Flip The Script On Golden Wind With Its New Villain
Acca Howler Is The Perfect Foil To Diavolo
Another interesting element about Acca Howler’s character is how he continues the contrast between Golden Wind by being a foil to Diavolo. Not only does Howler being a public figure directly contrast Diavolo’s reclusiveness, but the reveal that Howler used the lava rocks to become rich directly contrasts Diavolo doing so with the Stand Arrows. Those factors and others make Howler a great new addition to JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure, and it will be great to see what the series does with him.
