John Wick 5 gets a disappointing new update from Keanu Reeves, who casts doubt on the film happening. After making his debut as the stylish assassin in 2014's John Wick 5 was in development. Since then, it has become unclear whether the movie will actually happen.

In a recent interview with Extra TV, Reeves is asked about his potential return to the world of John Wick. The actor explains that he will be making an appearance in the Ballerina spinoff movie, but beyond that there is nothing planned for his character. According to Reeves, Wick truly is dead, and that seemingly shuts the door on John Wick 5. Check out his full comment below:

"Oh my gosh, well there's a version of it called 'Ballerina,' which is in the 'John Wick' world, and John Wick makes a brief appearance. So, other than that, I have no idea. You know, the character's dead. He died in 'John Wick: Chapter 4.' I know, in Hollywood you can... I know, I know, it's the Hollywood story. Right now, there isn't."

The Ballerina spinoff takes place between the events of John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum and John Wick: Chapter 4.

Regarding John Wick 5, Stahelski has revealed that it's simply a matter of coming up with a strong enough story idea, and that this hasn't happened yet. He told CBS News in December: "My heart [wants another John Wick]. But my knees are saying right now, 'You can’t do another John Wick.'"

Our Take On Reeves' John Wick 5 Update

Making A John Wick Movie Is No Small Task

Though Tom Cruise is still engaging in arduous and dangerous stunt work at 62 years old, he is a special case, and it's hard to blame Reeves for not feeling up to making another one. Though Reeves leaves major stunts to stunt performers, he generally does the shootouts and hand-to-hand combat, meaning the John Wick movies are very physically taxing to make.

If Stahelski can come up with a compelling story, John Wick 5 may still be possible, but it certainly seems like the clock is ticking. With Stahelski's latest project, a Highlander reboot starring Henry Cavill, set to start filming this spring, he'll be busy for essentially the rest of the year getting that movie to the finish line. Reeves' latest update doesn't seem like a total death knell to John Wick 5 given some past comments from him and Stahelski, but it does now look less likely.
