Jodie Whittaker's 13th Doctor will wear colorful tees, braces, a big coat, cut-off tros and lace-up boots, a new first female Doctor Who lead back in July, with a video announcement revealing the Broadchurch and Adult Life Skills actress as the new central Time Lord on the BBC’s flagship sci-fi series.

In that video, Whittaker wore a grey coat over a black hoodie, an outfit reminiscent of Peter Capaldi’s incumbent version of The Doctor. But fans were quickly made aware that this wasn’t Jodie Whittaker’s official Doctor Who costume. As is the norm, she is expected to regenerate in the old Doctor’s clothes, before finding and developing her own unique look.

And now we know what that look will entail. Showing Whittaker’s Doctor alongside the iconic TARDIS in a lovely field in the British countryside, this image offers a head-to-toe glimpse at what Whittaker will look like in the role. As the BBC’s official Twitter caption explains, fans can expect a new series, a new Doctor and indeed a new look:

Despite the incredibly fresh feel of this striking image, there are elements of Doctor Who history in Whittaker’s new costume: the stripes on the top are reminiscent of Tom Baker’s iconic colorful scarf; the length of the coat conjures memories of David Tennant leaping over consoles; plus, those boots and braces are exactly the sort of thing that Matt Smith’s version of The Doctor would’ve wholeheartedly approved of.

However, these familiar elements are remixed in imaginative new ways. The coat is lighter than any outerwear the Doctor has worn recently, and the waistline is higher than usual. Plus, the tee’s neckline and the three-quarter-length tros combine to suggest that this Doctor isn’t afraid of the elements. Whittaker looks every bit ready for an action, even though her first full season as the Doctor isn’t expected until late next year.

The overarching message here seems to be one of lightness, optimism, and positivity. While Peter Capaldi’s debut as the Time Lord was defined by his gruff contrast to Matt Smith, Whittaker’s arrival seems to have the opposite intention: to usher in a new era of color, fun, and adventure.

Whittaker's Doctor will debut in the closing moments of the 2017 Doctor Who Christmas special. She will then star in the show's eleventh season, led by new showrunner Chris Chibnall.
