Jeremy Renner reveals why he has refused to return in Mission: Impossible - Fallout. Renner’s illustrious career began with roles in several different television shows, feature-length thrillers, and action movies. In 2011 he appeared in the popular Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol, playing MF agent William Brandt. He reprised his role in Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation, but he’s been missing in the franchise ever since.

In a conversation on the Happy, Sad, Confused Podcast, Renner explains that he was asked to reprise his role as William Brandt in 2018’s Mission: Impossible - Fallout, but he turned down the opportunity because his character was going to be killed off.

The action star added that he was mad at the prospect of his character being killed, saying: “If you’re going to do this, and you’re going to use my character, you’re going to do it right.” Read his full comments below:

I they tried to bring me over[seas] for a week so they could kill my character, and I was like, ‘No, you don’t get to do that. You’re not going to drag me over there and just kill my character,’ like get out of here! If you’re going to do this and you’re going to use my character, you’re going to do it right.

I yelled at the director, dude, you’re not going to do this to me like that; you’re not going to do me wrong.

Will Jeremy Renner Ever Return To The Mission: Impossible Franchise?

Renner’s introduction to the Mission: Impossible franchise years ago was most welcomed by many. The 53-year-old brought dynamism, flair, and humor to the franchise, perfectly complementing Cruise’s Ethan Hunt. His time on the franchise was well received, so much so that there were several speculations that he could possibly replace Tom Cruise as the franchise's lead. This obviously never materialized, but the action star has said he is open to returning.

Renner revealed part of the reason why he exited the franchise was because of his responsibilities as a father and the time he would be separated from his family while filming overseas. However, with his daughter growing older, Renner could make future appearances as Brandt.

As of right now, there’s been no confirmation or suggestion of Renner returning to the franchise after not wanting to participate in Mission: Impossible - Fallout. Not only is he a possible replacement for Tom Cruise, if he chooses to walk away, but the return of a familiar face would serve as a great addition to the franchise, especially one who is beloved.
