Director Kevin Smith has dropped the first red band trailer for Jay and Silent Bob Reboot ahead of the movie's Saturday Hall H at San Diego Comic-Con 2019. The latest movie in the View Asknewniverse sees stoner buddies Jay (Jason Mewes) and Silent Bob (Smith) go on a road trip to Hollywood in an attempt to stop a reboot of a movie based on the comic characters based on them, Bluntman and Chronic.
Jay and Silent Bob Reboot features plenty of familiar faces, including Ben Affleck as Bluntman and Chronic co-creator Holden McNeil. Other returning cast include Shannon Elizabeth as Justice, Brian O'Halloran as Dante Hicks, and Joey Lauren Adams as Alyssa Jones. The movie also features Affleck's Justice League's after-credits scene). Smith's daughter, Harley Quinn Smith, plays the lovechild of Jay and Justice - a tough-talking girl gang member called Millennium Falcon. Other famous faces include Matt Damon, Rosario Dawson, Justin Long, James Van Der Beek, Jason Biggs, Craig Robinson, and Fred Armisen.
Needless to say, Jay and Silent Bob Reboot's cast is pretty packed. If the numerous superhero actors weren't enough, the movie is also geared towards a Comic-Con audience since it's about Jay and Silent Bob heading to a fan convention called "Chronic Con," which has a strangely familiar logo. Check out the red band trailer for Jay and Silent Bob Reboot below.
As seen in a previously-released poster for the Bluntman and Chronic reboot, Kilmer is playing Bluntman while Benoist is playing a gender-flipped version of Chronic. Smith has described it as "a movie that makes fun of sequels and remakes and reboots while being all three at the same time.” To celebrate the release of the trailer, he shared a behind-the-scenes photo of himself, Mewes, and Elizabeth filming their reunion scene on Twitter.
Jay and Silent Bob Reboot looks like it includes all the usual themes of Askewniverse movies: pop culture, comic books, self-aware humor, slacker comedy and, of course, lots and lots of weed. Fans can find out more about the movie during the Kevin Smith Reboots Hall H! on Saturday at 7:15pm PDT. The movie is getting a limited theatrical release in 600 theaters on October 15 and October 17, 2019, which will include a special pre-recorded video introduction from Mewes and Smith. The October 17 screenings are a double feature of Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back and Jay and Silent Bob Reboot.
