Jack Black is the man of the hour in 2025, hot off the success of his role as Steve in A Minecraft Movie. However, we all have to start somewhere, and the School of Rock actor is no exception, making one of his first television appearances in the Golden Girls spinoff, The Golden Palace.

Before he graced the world with energetic performances in films like High Fidelity and Kung Fu Panda, an unknown Black briefly appeared in a 1992 episode of the sequel series, which ran TV spinoff series you've probably never heard of before.

Jack Black's Role In Golden Girls' Spinoff, Golden Palace, Explained

Black Plays A Taxi Driver In A Very Brief Appearance

Jack Black appeared in the second episode of a two-parter titled "Seems Like Old Times," which sees Bea Arthur reprise her role as Dorothy Zbornak as she reunites with her former roommates, who are now running an understaffed Miami hotel called the Golden Palace. In "Seems Like Old Times (Part 2)," Dorothy verbally spars with Rose (Betty White) and Blanche (Rue McClanahan) over where her mother, Sophia (Estelle Getty), should live. After Sophia runs away, disheartened by the trio's arguing, Dorothy makes up with her friends, and they resolve to find her mother together.

In the brief cameo, a young Black sports a shaved head, fresh face, and his signature eyebrow raise that could rival even Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson's.

After the gang waltzes over to the hotel lobby, in walks Jack Black as the cab driver who drove Dorothy's mother to Shady Pines, the retirement community Sophia frequently described as a "prison" in The Golden Girls. In the brief cameo, a young Black sports a shaved head, fresh face, and his signature eyebrow raise that could rival even Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson's. Though his time on-screen in The Golden Palace lasts less than a minute, Black steals the show with his wild, darting eyes and odd comedic cadence.

Bea Arthur's Departure Hurt The Golden Palace's Ratings

Though lively and comical, The Golden Palace only lasted 24 episodes after CBS canceled the show in 1993, with Bea Arthur's absence playing a large part in the network's decision. Even so, the '90s spinoff series (which is one of four other shows set in the Golden Girls universe) is ed fondly today for its hijinks, and, in large part, for the many appearances of past and future stars, including Jack Black, a young Don Cheadle, and even Cheech Marin in the role of Chuy Castillos, the hotel's chef.
