Jameson's backstory – eventually presented in the anthology series Spider-Man's Tangled Web #20, by current Spider-Man writer Zeb Wells with art by Dean Haspiel – showed him shaped by his abusive father, who everyone else saw as a manly war hero. It reinforced his belief that anyone seen as a hero by the general public must be hiding dark secrets, or committing some other crime outside of the limelight. Even when the Wallcrawler has saved of his family, Jameson only paused, but never canceled, his personal vendetta against Spider-Man.
