It's Always Sunny season 17, the star-studded cast comes together once again as the hilariously dysfunctional proprietors of an Irish dive bar in Philadelphia.
In an interview with Screen Rant’s Rachel Foertsch during a Wrexham A.F.C. event at Cosm Los Angeles, McElhenney revealed that filming for season 17 concluded this week. McElhenney, who co-owns Wrexham A.F.C. with Ryan Reynolds, shared insight into the series’ progress, while also teasing the potential return of the Always Sunny podcast. Here's what he had to say:
[Regarding the podcast's return] I don't know. We'll see. We never say never. We're all so super busy right now, but we love the podcast, and we love recording it. We love the show, obviously.
We just finished season 17, or actually, tomorrow is our last day of production on season 17. And then we're wrapped.
What The Wrap On It's Always Sunny's Season 17 Means
The Gang Finishes Another Season
It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia season 17 promises more hilariously absurd escapades from the Gang, as they navigate everything from their drinking, scheming, and arguing to the continued decline of Paddy’s Pub. While plot details for the season remain under wraps, hopefully a return to the It's Always Sunny podcast, which is hosted by Day, Howerton, and McElhenney, can offer some behind-the-scenes insights. In the meantime, the Gang will appear on TV sooner than expected with a two-episode crossover with ABC's Philly-based sitcom Abbott Elementary.

8 Things We Want To See In Abbott Elementary & It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia Crossover
Now that we know Abbot Elementary and It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia are doing a crossover episode, there's a lot that viewers want to see.
The end of It's Always Sunny season 16 saw some comedic highlights, like Dennis' chaotic attempt at a mental health day, a gender showdown at a Moyle-owned bowling alley, and the gang’s venture into creating celebrity-endorsed booze guest starring Breaking Bad's Brian Cranston and Aaron Paul. The show's ability to consistently tackle a variety of scenarios with scorching irony since its 2005 premiere ensures season 17 will keep up the laughs while maintaining its cultural relevance. Filming wrapping this week suggests the series will return in spring or summer 2025.
