This article contains spoilers for Black Adam.Henry Cavill is back as Superman, but he's unlikely to appear in Cavill's Superman and Dwayne Johnson's Black Adam. Johnson has been vocal in pushing for this for months, and he managed to get his way going over the head of departing DC Films boss Walter Hamada. Naturally, all eyes are turning to the future of Superman in the DCEU, and whether he could even appear in The Flash.

Superman's return in The Flash, however, is unlikely to happen. It's important to The Flash movie has already wrapped, and in fact the sequel has already been written by Henry Cavill's Superman to appear in that particular franchise. The only real possibility of note is that Warner Bros. could choose to make an MCU-style post-credits scene, one that teases a different movie rather than The Flash 2.

What Is Henry Cavill's Future In The DCEU?

Henry Cavill's Superman and DCEU Background

Cavill's return to the DCEU is certainly an exciting development, but DC Films do not appear minded to shift the focus of their entire shared universe, so his future very much depends on him. This is a wise decision, avoiding potential problems should the DCEU become overly dependent on a single character or concept. Rather than adding Superman into everything else in production, DC Films instead seem to be concentrating on Man of Steel 2 is in early development, with Warner Bros. currently looking for both writer(s) and a director.

Which Other DC Superheroes Will Appear In The Flash Movie?

Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman

Even if Superman isn't involved, The Flash movie won't be without cameos and guest appearances. It is already confirmed to be a multiversal adventure that will reintroduce Michael Keaton's Batman, expected to become a mentor figure for the Flash as Barry Allen tries to figure out the new reality he's inadvertently created. Ben Affleck is returning as the DCEU's Bruce Wayne, meaning there will be at least two incarnations of Batman. Sasha Calle will make her DCEU debut as Supergirl too, playing an unknown role.

There have also long been rumors of other cameos in The Flash, notably by Gal Gadot's Wonder Woman (perhaps as an evil Wonder Woman, given The Flash is inspired by an arc called Flashpoint that did indeed feature an alternate-reality Princess Diana as a villain). Ray Fisher's Cyborg has been confirmed to have appeared in some scripts, but he was ultimately written out because Fisher refused to work on any project involving Walter Hamada. Given Hamada has now left DC Films, he could easily be added back into the film for a small role. With this many secondary characters in the mix, The Flash really doesn't need Henry Cavill's Superman too.
