With Black Myth: Wukong's release date now in the past, the question has shifted to whether it will receive DLC. The hit action RPG released to massive success, selling over 10 million copies in its first few days. Though not at the level of something like Elden Ring, Wukong still stood on its own and made a name for itself.

Many of the reasons for this were due to simple, fun gameplay mixed with Black Myth: Wukong's hard and memorable bosses. Character progression was streamlined, outside some secret gear, which made it easy to follow. Though players were limited to one weapon, each of the three staff stances made combat feel unique. Bosses were varied and creative, leading to unique fights that few if any other titles can claim.

When Black Myth: Wukong DLC Could Release

More Mythological Adventures Coming Soon

According to Daniel Wu of Hero Games', the funders of developer Game Science, there is DLC for Black Myth: Wukong in the works. With that said, the only news of a release date for this rumored DLC comes from gaming consultant Daniel Camilo. He claims that his sources point to the Chinese New Year, 2025.

This timeline may seem a bit early, but if DLC was in development before the release, it may make sense. Since Wukong is more linear and closed than other action RPGs, it doesn't take as much time to develop. Also, given the profit this game made, it wouldn't be impossible to bolster staff or resources toward faster production to maximize the potential.

Black Myth: Wukong DLC Could Repeat Elden Ring's Success

As with Shadow of The Erdtree for Elden Ring, a DLC for Wukong could be another huge boost for the title. A game like this receiving new challenges, possibly the best of cut content, has a high chance of pulling players back. At the very worst, it would still likely sell in China, where a lot of the sales were originally. It would be hard to match a DLC like Shadow of The Erdtree, but even being of the same quality as the base game of Black Myth: Wukong would be amazing.

If the DLC could be nearly as successful for developer Game Science, it would be huge on two fronts. One is that it would continue a legacy of a more straightforward game finding success in a modern market. Second, it could help propel the company for whatever ventures they desire in the future. Regardless, it will be exciting to see what is DLC is planned for Black Myth: Wukong and when it will release.
