Marvel's Marvel Studios' next projects, Riri Williams, aka Ironheart, who was introduced in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, can carry on his legacy. Before Ironheart premieres on June 24 on Disney+, her Iron Man connection gets spotlighted.
Speaking with Empire, Dominique Thorne revealed that Robert Downey Jr. gave her his blessing for Ironheart. Check out Empire's new look at Thorne as Riri Williams in Ironheart below:
The image shows Riri in a new version of her Ironheart suit. The armor is bulkier than the one she wore in her MCU debut. According to the actress, Downey spoke to her after she had finished filming Ironheart, and the Iron Man actor was excited about the show and rooting for it to be a hit. Ironheart's story will include magic, making it different from Iron Man's MCU adventures. Check out the full quote below:
"Robert Downey Jr and I spoke just after we wrapped, and he shared some very lovely words about my journey. He told me how excited he was and that he’s rooting for it, too. I literally got two thumbs up. It’s really reassuring to know you’re not embarrassing Iron Man."

The MCU Star Is Aware Of The Legacy She Now Carries
Thorne mentions that she is happy to know that she is not embarrassing Iron Man, with Robert Downey Jr. cheering her on. This shows that the actress is well aware of the huge legacy that has fallen into her hands. While Riri and Tony Stark have never met in the MCU, and thus the characters are unlikely to have the same kind of connection they do in Marvel Comics, she is carrying his legacy as the armored hero of a new generation in the franchise. Those are some big shoes to fill.

Downey has become the face of the MCU. As such, Thorne's new comments about how the Tony Stark actor not only s her journey as his replacement in the franchise, but is also very excited to see what Ironheart looks like, can only help the show reach a larger number of fans. That said, Iron Man appearing in Ironheart is unlikely, as Downey's future in the franchise is as Doctor Doom in the Avengers movies. However, with the multiverse, it is possible for Downey and Thorne to meet as Iron Man and Ironheart in the films.

The MCU Has Found Iron Man's Replacement
I think it is heartening to know that Robert Downey Jr. approves of Iron Man's MCU replacement and is excited about Ironheart. I liked what I have seen of Riri Williams in the MCU so far, and her resourcefulness very much reminded me of Tony Stark building his first suit with a box of scraps. Being the Iron Man figure of a new generation of MCU heroes is quite a daunting task, but with Downey's and her performance in the MCU so far, I feel confident that Thorne will deliver on our expectations in Ironheart and future MCU projects.
