Tony Stark’s Superior Iron Man becomes a terrifying zombie creation in a thrilling new cosplay from Michał Gliszczynski (@mike_dd3d). This supremely powerful armor is a fan favorite, which makes it the perfect cosplay concept to combine with another fan favorite series, Marvel Zombies. The new twist on the iconic comic suit is a live-action blend of classic Iron Man technology and decaying horror, which is a true metaphor for the Superior Iron Man.
Marvel Zombies is one of the darkest takes on the Marvel Universe. Marvel Zombies there is no Superior Iron Man, as Tony was infected with the virus in his original gold and red suit and never had the chance to the endo-sym armor.
Cosplayer cosplayer's previous Superior Iron Man suit redesign and adds some new horrifying flourishes. The most notable change is the charred skull that sits eyeless inside a damaged and blackened helmet. This skull can also be partially obscured by a half-broken faceplate with a glowing blue Iron Man eye. This design evokes a new vision of horror for Tony Stark, and can also be seen as a fitting metaphor for what he became near the end of his own life.
In the main Marvel Universe Tony Stark died as the Superior Iron Man, and this new cosplay —with a gleaming exterior that masks a decaying and horrible secret— is a perfect reflection of what Iron Man became right before his death. As comic fans know, after the AXIS event Tony Stark had his morals inverted, and his desire to save the world was exchanged for a desire to control it. During his time as Superior Iron Man he pretended to be the same hero he had always been while secretly plotting to use Extremis tech to control the world’s population. Created by Tom Taylor and Yıldıray Çınar, the original comic suit is a glossy shell that contains a villainous Stark. @mike_dd3d's redesign takes that idea further while also combining it with the ghoulish fun of Marvel Zombies.
Zombies go out of style, and by bringing the putrid look of Marvel Zombies to his shiny Superior Iron Man armor, Gliszczynski has managed to create an all new look. The endo-sym armor was one of the most horrific phases for Iron Man. The fallen hero tried to control the world, attacked former friends, and even tried to blackmail Daredevil, but in the end he died for his crimes. It is only fitting that the Superior Iron Man armor be matched up with the charred skull of a dead Tony Stark in a cosplay that is both beautiful and disturbing.
