cosplay is showing off this stylish color scheme of Tony Stark's armor along with the power of 3D printing.
The look of the Mark 42 made its way into the MCU as the Iron Man Mark 20 armor aka the Python— a long-range prototype suit — and now that black and gold beauty now has a jaw-dropping cosplay courtesy of @plentiful_proos_3d as displayed on his Instagram . This awesome piece of cosplay shows off the slick colors of one of Iron Man's most underappreciated models. According to Nick, the artist and cosplayer behind the look, it consists of a combination of the Mark 7 torso, Mark 33 helmet, and Mark 17 legs.
Nick credits @portrait_photography_sessions for the amazing pictures, which were taken at Canada's Cold War Museum. Additionally, the torso armor of this Iron Man suit was 3D printed by @johan3dprintmaster and the helmet and legs are courtesy of do3d_com.
The Black and Gold Mark 42 Armor Was One Of Iron Man's Best
Tony Stark's original black and gold suit was the Mark 42. It was one of Iron Man's most unique armors, because of its modular design. Its part could be rapidly changed out and replaced with the latest tech and gadgetry that Tony wanted to test. This customizable design was also capable of folding up into a suitcase and later a backpack. In order to access its modular functions, the Mark 42 was sometimes accompanied by a mobile armory controlled by the latest Stark AI system, but the suit was less about battle and more about acting as a testing ground for whatever new component Tony was currently working on.
This striking design with amazing arc reactor, and the functionality of the armor is a true testament to the power of 3D printing in cosplay. Though the armor is meant to resemble the MCU's Mark 20, it's construction and modular nature fits the Marvel Comics' Mark 42 far better. After all, that armor was how Tony showed off his latest ideas and techniques and that is certainly what was done here. Though 3D printing is still a relatively young technology in the cosplay community, many professional cosplayers have been turning to it more and more, and this Iron Man armor clearly proves why.
Whether, or not fans are talking about the Mark 42 or Mark 20, it's impossible to ignore the beauty and power of Tony's black and gold armor. It is one of Iron Man's best looks, and that has never been more apparent or appealing than it has in this latest cosplay.
