There is a new about the new Iron Fist, and while the covers do not answer any of them, they show him using these powers to fight off a horde of demons.
Danny Rand, the first Iron Fist in the modern era, is a fan-favorite character, often paired with Luke Cage. As a young boy, the plane he was traveling on crashed near the fabled city of K’un-Lun. He was taken in by the city’s inhabitants and trained to be their champion. Taking the name Iron Fist, Danny returned to the outside world, embarking on a heroic career, first as Luke Cage’s partner in Heroes for Hire, and later with the Defenders and the Avengers. Recently, in the miniseries Iron Fist: Heart of the Dragon, Danny lost his powers. While this may have been a blow to other heroes, Iron Fist decided he was finally going to live life to the fullest. In his absence, a new Iron Fist has arrived, but little is known about him, other than he is of Asian descent—and he has different powers than Danny Rand.
The new Iron fist shows off these powers in a pair of new covers by Leinil Yu, Sonny Gho and Jim Cheung. The book will be written by Alyssa Wong and illustrated by Michael Yg. Marvel editor Danny Khazem shared the covers on shows the new Iron Fist facing the reader, his hands crackling with energy and ready for a fight.
The covers show the new Iron Fist in action, but they do not answer any questions about the new hero’s identity or powers. Cheung’s cover shows Iron Fist’s hands glowing with chi energy, much like his predecessor—yet interviews with writer Alyssa Wong have revealed he may draw his powers from another source. But what is it? And how did he get them? Wong has also revealed that the new Iron Fist took a different, unusual path to the role—does he come from somewhere other than K’un-Lun?
There has been speculation the new Iron Fist may be a character fans already know and if that is the case, who is it? Danny Rand’s time as Iron Fist has drawn to a close, but this mysterious new hero has taken up the mantle and fans can see him in action when his new series debuts on February 16.
