The iPhone 12 mini is the smallest smartphone Apple makes and therefore is likely to be a popular option for consumers. However, although now announced, the iPhone 12 is currently not available to pre-order. Here's an explanation on when the newest and smallest iPhone can be ordered, and how much it costs.

Apple has only made a smaller sized iPhone three times. The first iPhone SE came in 2016 and Apple updated it with more storage in 2017, but a new small iPhone was not seen again until the 2020 version of the iPhone SE. Of course, now with the iPhone 12 mini, the smallest iPhone has all of the features rather than being a budget model. Apple explained that the pandemic delayed production and shipping so those interested in the new iPhone models will need to wait a little longer than usual to place an order.

The iPhone 12 Pro models don't have $30 added to the price. The price of the iPhone 12 mini increases when ordering in a larger storage capacity. The base model has 64-gigabytes of storage for apps, files, photos, videos and music. A 128-gigabyte version costs $50 more and 256-gigabytes of storage increases the cost by $150 over the base price. That means price varies from $699 to $879. depending on storage choice and if purchased without a carrier plan.

Pre-Order, Shipping & Installment Payments

For those interested in purchasing the iPhone 12 mini, there is a wait involved. The new smallest iPhone is expected to be available for pre-order on Friday, November 6. Orders are expected to begin shipping one week later, on Friday, November 13. Shipping times can be expected to be slower than in previous years, so those most eager to get their new Apple smartphone, may want to check the local Apple store or other retailers for stock availability on or around the 13th of November.

When placing an order from Apple, there is a possibility to purchase and pay monthly installments instead of the full amount at once. To qualify, an Apple Card is needed, which has to be applied for. If accepted, there is no interest and the payment amount is split over 24 months. Despite the somewhat confusing pricing regarding unlocked phones, Apple makes it easy for nearly anyone to own the new iPhone 12 mini, with a monthly cost as low as $29.12.
