Warning: This article contains SPOILERS for Invincible season 3, episodes 1-7.Cecil's position as the Global Defense Agency's Director has always given him plenty of authority, but Cecil's somewhat villainous actions throughout Invincible season 3, it's easy to understand his perspective and why he takes such drastic measures to protect Earth. Although he could be more comionate with his approach towards aspiring heroes and the Guardians of the Globe, defending Earth from alien invasions is no merciful job as the Invincible War highlighted, and Cecil needs to be incredibly headstrong to carry out his duties.

He may come across as fairly ruthless at times, but Invincible season 3 even tweaked Cecil's backstory to make him more heroic, justifying his cold personality. Luckily, Cecil isn't all talk, as he has shown countless times throughout the show that he is much stronger than meets the eye. While he doesn't have superhuman abilities or a rich combat history, his position in the GDA has given him access to plenty of useful tools. His teleportation and sound device showed Cecil can get in the faces of powerful heroes and villains, but one asset has been even more critical.

The GDA’s ReAnimen Proved Vital During The Invincible War

Cecil's Most Trusted Weapons Helped Save Plenty Of Lives

Out of all the GDA's defense mechanisms, the ReAnimen have proven the most efficient, which the Invincible War confirmed. Although they were created by D.A. Sinclair, Cecil has asserted full authority over them and uses these inventions as soldiers to help deal with potential threats. Despite being former humans, the ReAnimen have been mostly disposable throughout the show and seem to be almost endless, making these mechanical beasts a genuine problem when grouped together. As a result, Invincible's ReAnimen are deceptively strong, and they were even able to take down two different Mark Grayson variants during the Invincible War.

The Pentagon was one of several targets in the Invincible War, and while an evil Invincible variant did some serious damage, Cecil managed to use his sound device to neutralize the villain, before the ReAnimen beat him to death. Another scene showed several ReAnimen constraining a different Mark variant before snapping his neck, proving how useful they are to the GDA. Had it not been for these government weapons, thousands more people would have died, but Cecil has managed to use the ReAnimen effectively and turn them into valuable assets that have become crucial to protecting Earth.

The ReAnimen Have Already Been Incredibly Useful Throughout Invincible

Sinclair's Invention Has Helped Take Down Villains Like Doc Seismic & Slowed Down Omni-Man

The Invincible War wasn't the only time the ReAnimen have come in handy, as they have been a constant source of defense throughout the series, despite their dark origins. Sinclair initially used human subjects who were still alive to turn them into these zombie-like machines, but rather than being used for evil like Sinclair initially planned, the GDA has repeatedly had the ReAnimen face major threats. In season 1, they were deployed to slow down Omni-Man after he began his rampage, and the ReAnimen did a surprisingly good job of hindering the Viltrumite, helping minimize the overall casualties.

Invincible has focused heavily on Cecil and his backstory throughout season 3, which finally answers a question that has been ongoing since season 1.

They also showed up alongside Darkwing to stop Doc Seismic and free Earth's heroes, who may have all died had it not been for the GDA's intervention. Even on a smaller scale, Cecil used the ReAnimen and his device when Mark broke into the Pentagon, showing how reliable they are for solving problems. Even though Cecil could never quite stop Omni-Man in Invincible, the ReAnimen have been a reliable contingency plan for him, suggesting that even if he can't nullify the show's biggest threats on his own, he can at least do some damage until backup arrives.

The ReAnimen Prove Why Cecil Is One Of Invincible's Most Powerful Characters

He Is Able To Control Powerful Inventions & Use Former Villains To His Advantage

On his own, Cecil wouldn't stand a chance against any of Invincible's top heroes, but his mind is where his true strength lies, which the ReAnimen prove. Rather than simply locking Sinclair up and throwing away the key, he saw the potential of his genius and the good it could do, hence deciding to rehabilitate him. Although Mark was livid at Cecil's decision to give the former villain a second chance, it ultimately turned out to be the right call when looking at how helpful the ReAnimen have been throughout the seasons, highlighting Cecil's true talent.

Using the ReAnimen has undoubtedly been a big gamble, but they have never gone rogue and have been under Cecil's command the entire time, while Sinclair has also been kept in line.

His line about being the good guys or being the guys that save the world is a clear indicator of his philosophy, but he also tells Mark after the Invincible War that they're still on the same side, proving he believes in doing the right thing, even if it takes some drastic methods to get there. Darkwing's redemption further justifies Cecil's decision and confirms what makes him so strong. Even without the best people skills, he has reformed villains and used their best attributes for good, while his strategy is also next to none. With someone less competent in charge, Earth would probably have fallen to its own villains much earlier in Invincible, way before Angstrom Levy or the Viltrumites targeted the planet. Instead, Cecil has kept composed and helped fend off some extremely dangerous foes without being killed himself, highlighting how powerful he is, especially with the ReAnimen army at his disposal.
