Warning: Contains SPOILERS for Invincible season 2, episode 6!

Summary

  • Invincible season 2 cuts Brit, impacting future crossovers - bad news for fans of broader Image Comics universe.
  • By replacing Brit with GDA soldiers, Invincible may struggle to recreate comics' crossover characters' impact.
  • An Invincible TV crossover is needed for certain storylines, could help promote other Image Comics heroes.

Invincible season 2, episode 6 has just revealed that one major character was cut, with this being really bad news for the crossover hopes of fans. Amazon Prime Video's Invincible series has been self-contained so far, with it featuring no spinoffs or crossover episodes. However, this isn't the case in the Invincible comics, as they are heavily tied into the broader Image Comics universe. Thus, this cut character could cause a lot of problems for the Invincible universe, with episode 6's way of handling this topic being a bit disappointing.

Invincible season 2, part 2 is finally here, with the highly anticipated continuation of Amazon Prime Video's critically acclaimed animated adaptation of the beloved superhero comic series now releasing. Invincible season 2, part 2 picks up right where Invincible season 2, part 1 ended, with Mark returning from Earth to the planet Thraxa to help the Guardians of the Globe stop an alien invasion. Meanwhile, the remaining Guardians fight off another threat from at home, but things end up going horribly wrong for the team, leading to a massive Guardians tragedy.

Brit Doesn't Save Rex Splode In Invincible Season 2

Brit in Image Comics

One of the most disappointing parts of Invincible season 2, episode 6 is that it cut Brit, with him not saving Rex Splode in Invincible season 2. Episode 5 saw Rex Splode, Shrinking Rae, and Dupli-Kate fight the Lizard League at a nuclear base, with the villains massacring the team. Episode 6 opens with several unnamed Global Defense Agency soldiers appear at the base to rescue them, viewing the carnage before bringing Rex and Rae to safety. However, this is a significant departure from the comics.

Invincible Season 3: Everything You Need To Know

The Amazon Prime Video series Invincible shined during its first two seasons, and here's everything we know about the triumphant third season.

In the Invincible comics, it isn't GDA agents that save Rex Splode, with it instead being Brit. Brit is another major Image Comics character who has headlined his own comics run, although he does play a big part in Invincible as well. Sadly, the Invincible show hasn't used Image Comics crossover characters, with this possibly being due to rights issues. Thus, the Invincible TV series decided to cut Brit and replace him with unnamed GDA soldiers, with this comic book change being a significant downgrade.

Invincible Will Struggle To Avoid Its Crossover Characters Completely

Not including Brit in this one scene may not seem like that big of a deal, but it sets up a massive Invincible problem. Although the Invincible comics start out fairly self-contained, the series gets more and more tied into the Image Comics universe as time goes on, with many of Image Comics' most vital characters playing major roles in Invincible arcs. Characters like Brit, Wolf-Man, Savage Dragon, and teams like Youngblood, Capes Inc, and The Pact are all vital to some Invincible storylines, meaning that completely cutting them from the show is impossible.

What's even more disappointing about season 2's decision to cut Brit is that he was replaced with unnamed GDA soldiers, which is an incredibly boring pick compared to the other Invincible characters. Brit's shock at the horrors of the Lizard League are incredibly impactful due to the reader knowing how tough and jaded Brit is. This is lost in the Invincible show, meaning that the scene isn't as impactful. Using these soldiers implies that the Invincible show won't even try to recreate some of these crossover beats, which will be really hard to pull off as the crossover stories become more important.

How An Invincible TV Crossover Could Actually Work

Invincible and The Pact team

Although it probably won't happen, an Invincible TV crossover is needed in order to adapt some storylines, and here is how it could actually work. Invincible is a massive property compared to some of Image Comics' other heroes, meaning that the series could be used to promote these properties. In the Invincible comics, characters like Wolf-Man and Brit don't have their backstories entirely explored, with the series quickly filling audiences on whom these characters are. If the Invincible show does this, then these characters will just seem like the show's other heroes, meaning that this could work.

Who Invincible Season 2's Real Main Villains Are

Angstrom Levy was heavily d as the main villain of Invincible season 2, this isn't the case, with a new villain taking his spot.

Another option is that Amazon Prime Video could use these other characters for Invincible spinoffs, setting up an Image Comics television universe. Image heroes like Spawn, Tech Jacket, and Firebreather could very easily hold up their own TV shows, with them crossing over with Invincible at different points throughout the show. This would be the perfect way to balance some of the denser comic crossover storylines, with it working perfectly for Amazon Prime Video's Invincible.
