Trigger Warning: This article contains discussions of drug and alcohol addiction and self-harm.

Intervention season 1 aired almost 20 years ago, and it's time to see where the cast is today. A&E's Intervention is a hard-hitting show about addiction — with so many films centered around drugs, it's easy to forget the reality of it. The show has witnessed some intense addictions to things as seemingly innocuous as shopping and gaming to lethal addictions like fentanyl, alcohol, heroin, or meth.

When the participants accept the show's treatment, the audience never knows if they will stick to their sobriety. The show gives a short update at the end, but season 1 aired in 2005, so many fans of the show may wonder how are they all doing now. Intervention season 1 featured the addiction journeys of 13 people.

Alyson Markoff

Season 1, Episode 1

Alyson was the very first person that the show featured. She was actively addicted to crack, morphine, and marijuana. Most notably, she stole money from her ailing father to purchase more drugs. It was a heartbreaking episode, and she truly needed help.

Sadly, Alyson's father ed away in 2007. One on the Intervention Directory said they found a blog Alyson had written about her Bipolar diagnosis and what it meant, but no link could be found. Alyson was very active and shared many of the fantastic thriller novels on Goodreads as recently as 2019 and had an active Facebook for a while where she was seemingly doing well and spreading awareness about schizoaffective conditions.

On Reddit, Lovemymutts3 started a thread regarding an update on Alyson, and it was revealed that she is active on TikTok, where she posts concerning content. One such video from May 4, 2024 was a selfie-style video where Alyson was speaking about the devil. In the Reddit thread, upset fans spoke about what her TikTok videos could mean. One person wrote that her issues lay in "mental health and maybe drug-induced psychosis."

Vanessa MarquezSeason 1, Episode 2

Vanessa was a fairly successful actress, starring in the medical drama ER. She had a shopping addiction that put her in debt, and she also dealt with agoraphobia. She had no family present at her intervention, which was an oddity for the show. Even though her YouTube channel showed her doing better in 2018, she struggled with seizures and other problems. According to Daily Mail wellness check was called on her during an episode, and she was shot and killed by police when she walked outside brandishing a replica gun.

The police released the body cam footage which showed Vanessa pleading with the police to kill her. A wrongful death suit was filed by her mother against the City of Pasadena alleging false imprisonment, unlawful entry, battery, and negligence among other things. Her mother was awarded $450,000.

Tamela TurtleSeason 1, Episode 3

In one of the most graphic episodes in the history of Intervention, Tamela suffered from extreme self-harm addiction. Her family wanted to "pray away" her addiction in the episode, and when they finally itted that their willful ignorance of her addiction was wrong, Tamela accepted treatment. Tamela completed six months in a treatment facility.

Most information about Tamela since her episode is speculative and based on fans who claim they have intel on her. According to Intervention Directory, she is now happily married and had a son in 2012 and a daughter in 2014. She hasn't been active on social media for nearly ten years.

Brian BellamoreSeason 1, Episode 4

Brian Bellamore on Intervention in a close up image looking sad

Brian was an itted sex and meth addict. He would walk the streets nightly looking for new sex partners in his Vermont town. He struggled with his sexuality and his family's disapproval, which contributed to his addictions.

A man named Matthew, who cited on Intervention Directory that he knew and briefly dated Brian, shared that he had been arrested for meth trafficking after the show and had been to rehab several times. Eventually, Brian was able to get sober but sadly ed away after a complication during surgery for a skin infection. He was reportedly sober at the time of his death.

Sara Hejny-WaldonSeason 1, Episode 5

Another meth featured on the show was Sara. She became addicted to crystal meth after a messy divorce. During her episode, her addiction tore apart her family, and she was dealing with losing custody of her daughter.

Thankfully, Sara accepted treatment and turned her life around. She was in treatment for four months and returned to her family afterward. She was awarded partial custody of her daughter and got a job as a corrections officer. She was featured on an A&E "Legacy Update" special in which she was celebrating ten years of sobriety. She revealed that she had a long-time partner, Greg, a new son, and a relationship with her daughter.

She even became a meth educator for the Ramsey Sheriff's Dept. and was featured in an article for Press. About her position as an educator about meth, Sara said she hopes her story is able to help people who are struggling with meth addiction.

"I know how powerful this drug is," Waldron said. "It hurts me to see so many people addicted to it and to know I was too."

Travis MeeksSeason 1, Episode 6

Travis, like Sara, was also battling an addiction to crystal meth. At one point, he was in a reasonably successful band called Days Of The New, and they even toured with the legendary rock band Metallica, but his drug addiction took over his life. Sadly, Travis was not as successful in his treatment as his costar, Sara. He was in and out of rehab repeatedly and was arrested several times according to Kentucky Bookings. He had been looking very gaunt, likely because he has relapsed on crystal meth.

According to a Reddit thread by Voodoomaster86 who was asking for updates on Travis, he has been doing much better. He has an active Facebook page, where he posts healthy-looking selfies and drops music.

He celebrated his 45th birthday six months ago. He is reportedly still sober and taking care of his legal issues.

Peter OgdenSeason 1, Episode 7

Like Vanessa, Peter's addiction had more to do with activity than a controlled substance. He suffered from a video game addiction and even once played Dance Dance Revolution for over 24 hours straight. He referred to characters in his games as his friends and faced complicated relationships with his mother and girlfriend. There were claims that Rachel, Peter's girlfriend, had several restraining orders against him for stalking before she and Peter eventually broke up, and he filed one.

Peter completed 40 days in a treatment facility before returning home to his family. However, according to Wikipedia's update on Peter, he still plays video games. Peter has two children and appears to be doing well.

Tina SopherSeason 1, Episode 8

Tina Sopher from Intervention and a photo of her hospital room

Tina was dealing with several addictions in her episode. In addition to gambling on things like horse racing and casinos, she also abused Vicodin. Notably, she brought her 3-year-old son to the horse track and had a marriage hanging on by a string.

Though, Tina wasn't the only one contributing to her marital problems. In a surprising turn of events, Tina commented on her listing on the Intervention Directory to update fans in 2014. She shared that Harley, her now ex-husband, had repeatedly cheated on her. Her son, Pooh Bear, graduated high school.

"How I wish I could give all the facts, the ups and downs through the years, and the truth intervention didn’t want anyone to see."

She was hospitalized in 2021 with what appeared to be COVID, but she has since recovered.

Christine AlvarezSeason 1, Episode 9

Christine Alvarez on Intervention in close up shot form interview

Christine was the first alcohol addict that the show featured. She was highly addicted to consuming beer from when she woke up to when she went to sleep. She even drank while at work. Although she was in deep denial about her problem, she repeatedly cried for help and itted to trying treatment in the past, and it was "not working."

Like Tina, Christine found her page on the Intervention Directory and commented updates for those who were curious. She shared that she did relapse after the show and was addicted for six more years before finally committing to recovery. In addition to her son, she now has a daughter, and she and her husband are still together. About her sobriety, Christine opened up in the Directory's comments.

"Now that I have been sober for almost 4 years, I continue to believe that the key to quitting anything, is to know you are not alone, you are not the only one with this problem."

Christine did have a complaint about the show and addressed that, as of 2015, her episode was not in syndication, and she wanted her story available.

Kelly FranklinSeason 1, Episode 10

Kelly Franklin from Intervention and at his brother's wedding

Kelly's episode was very polarizing for fans. Some thought Kelly, a heavy drinker with an IQ of 160 who chose to live on the streets, was a smart aleck who threw his life away to avoid following rules. Others thought his family never made an effort with his later diagnosed learning disabilities and set him up for failure. He memorably itted that he did not want to stop drinking or change his homelessness status, so recovery looked unlikely at the end of his intervention.

The jury seems to be out on exactly how Kelly is doing. He was the best man at his brother's wedding and appeared to look healthier in Facebook photos from the event in 2015. Some fans on the Intervention Directory have said that they've seen him in SoCal on the streets, while another, last year, said that he was pursuing a degree and has been sober for ten years after losing half of his liver to alcoholism. Hopefully, the former Intervention star is in recovery.

Intervention is available to stream on Hulu.
