Instagram's Threads app is fast becoming a legitimate Twitter alternative, and while the app doesn't offer a way to post GIFs yet, there is a workaround. Twitter has a dedicated option that allows s to search for GIFs in the app's library and post them inside tweets. Even Instagram recently introduced the ability to add GIFs in comments. Given that Threads is a new platform, it's missing several key features, including native GIF .

While posting on Threads, s currently only have the option to attach images or videos. However, while Threads doesn't have a dedicated GIF button, s can still add GIFs to their posts using third-party keyboards. One of the easiest ways to add GIFs is via Gboard. The app has a vast library of GIFs, and is available for both Android and iPhone. To use Gboard to add GIFs, first the app from the Play Store or App Store.

Add GIFs To Threads With These Keyboards

Once ed, enable Gboard on the phone. On iOS, open the Settings app, search for Gboard, tap 'Keyboards' and enable the toggles next to 'Gboard' and 'Allow Full Access.' Now, when iPhone s want to post a GIF on Threads, they can switch to Gboard by tapping the globe icon in the bottom left corner of the keyboard. To enable Gboard on Android, open Settings, tap 'System,' then 'Languages & Input.' Tap 'On-screen keyboard' and select Gboard from the list. Like on iPhone, Android s can switch to Gboard by tapping the keyboard icon at the bottom of the current keyboard and selecting it from the list.

To add a GIF to Threads from Gboard on iPhone, tap the emoji button on the keyboard and select 'GIF' from the options at the bottom. Now, search for a GIF using the search bar on top. Tap the GIF to copy it, then long-press on the Threads text field to paste it, and that's it. On Android, just selecting a GIF and tapping it will insert it into the Thread. Post the Thread, and the GIF will be included.

Another app that's very popular among s for creating and sharing GIFs is Giphy. It's available on both the Play Store and App Store. Enable the Giphy keyboard and select it on iPhone or Android using the same method described above. Add the GIF to the Thread and post it. While Threads is expected to introduce native GIF eventually, both Giphy and Gboard are convenient workarounds that offer an excellent selection of GIFs.
