As s get acquainted with Instagram’s new text-based social app, app launched for iOS and Android simultaneously, and offers a similar microblogging experience to Twitter. It's still fairly limited, but Meta insists its capabilities will keep expanding with time.

Instagram's Threads app so far doesn't have an in-app toggle to enable dark mode, something that several s have highlighted in comparison to Threads' rival app, Twitter. However, it does adapt to the system's appearance settings, meaning it will show in dark mode if that's how the smartphone is set. Whether s it on Android or iOS, Threads changes its appearance to either a light or dark theme as per the smartphone's prevailing settings.

Change Your Phone's Display Settings

To change the appearance settings on an Android smartphone, head to 'Settings' > 'Display' and hit the 'Dark Theme' toggle. Doing this will enable the dark mode for all the apps on the device, including Threads. Hence, the next time s open the app, they'll notice that it shows up in a black-and-gray theme. s can also schedule dark mode on their Android smartphone by pressing the 'Dark Theme' button, selecting 'Schedule,' and then choosing from the available options, including 'Turns on at a custom time' or 'Turns on from sunset to sunrise.'

To enable dark mode on iPhones, s should head to 'Settings' > 'Display & Brightness' and select 'Dark' under 'Appearance.' Doing so immediately applies the dark theme across the interface and on all the apps, including Threads. To automate the dark theme, s should hit the toggle beside 'Automatic,' which, by default, syncs the dark mode with sunrise and sunset. Suppose s don't want to impose the setting across the operating system. In that case, they can add a shortcut to the Control Center to manually enable the display setting whenever they open Threads.

The Threads app is still new, and when s compare it with Twitter or any other social platform, for that matter, some feel that a lot of features are missing. Right now, it feels more like an extension of Instagram than an independent app. However, Meta is still working on it. In the near future, s should expect to see a lot of meaningful additions to the app, which could possibly include a dedicated appearance toggle as well. Until then, s can tweak their system settings to enable dark mode on Instagram Threads.
