Netherrealm Studios' next game may have just been leaked by a pretty reliable dataminer, and it's not Mortal Kombat. After these recent leaks, it's looking like another installment in the DC Comics fighting game series, Khaos Reigns story mode expansion, and more. It seems like NRS has moved on to its next project and is taking a break from MK.

According to MultiVersus dataminer MultiverSusie on X, Injustice 3 is allegedly in development and is NRS's next title after Mortal Kombat 1 (via VGC). The post made to X uses the word "injustice" three times when describing the shutdown of the platform DC Comics fighting game, MultiVersus. MultiverSusie replied to their own post with another message that just said "3." This information has not been confirmed, and NRS and WB have made no official statement about Injustice 3.

MultiVersus Leaker Teases Injustice 3

The Leaker Is Experienced In Datamining

MultiverSusie has leaked quite a lot of information correctly about MultiVersus, before that game was shut down. The claims Daffy Duck was going to be added to the game before its cancellation, based on dialogue files the found within the game between Lola Bunny and Daffy. The stopped regularly datamining for MultiVersus after the game's shutdown was announced, but has posted some updates here and there, and has returned to tease Injustice 3.

Mortal Kombat 1's development has seemingly come to an end with the Definitive Edition, and there were quite a few characters that never made it in.

Warner Bros. games, and especially Mortal Kombat and Injustice, have seen a ton of datamines and leaks in the past. The entire base rosters of both Mortal Kombat 1 and Injustice 2 were leaked ahead of their official reveals by numerous dataminers. There was some speculation that NRS's next game would be another MK game, based on a WB earnings call. WB CEO David Zaslav stated the company's game division will focus on a few game titles instead of several, one of those being MK. Injustice was never mentioned, but it looks like it might be back on the table.

Abandoning MK1 Is Hard To See, But Injustice 3 Is Overdue

Three MK Games In A Row Would Be Too Much

MK1 had a rocky release and life, with many fans feeling the game's microtransactions and general lack of content were a step back from MK11, while others praised the game's Kameo System and its fun gameplay. After numerous "promises" and statements from series co-creator Ed Boon, MK1 fans were hopeful the game would be ed with more DLC longer than MK11 and Injustice 2. While it has not been directly confirmed that for MK1 is over, it seems very likely, as NRS has always released a "complete edition" of their titles at the end of their lifespans.

If the next game had been MK (and it still might, as all of these datamines and rumors have not been confirmed), we might have seen some MK fatigue set in, for both fans and the developers. It could be a good thing for both MK and Injustice to take a break from MK and make Injustice 3 instead. However, the Injustice series has sold a small fraction of what MK has sold, so it remains to be seen if these leaks end up being true and if Injustice can reach a larger audience than previous attempts.
