Sony confirmed that Indiana Jones and The Great Circle will be available on PlayStation 5 in April. Despite initially being a console exclusive for the Xbox Series X|S, Microsoft's approach to multiplatform releases had many confident that Machine Games' adaptation of the intrepid archeologist would ultimately find its way onto Sony hardware. While Xbox enthusiasts may be frustrated by the move, PlayStation s are undoubtedly pleased at the prospect of finally playing one of 2024's most surprising gems.

Posting on X (formerly Twitter), the official PlayStation announced that Indiana Jones and The Great Circle will be available on PS5 on April 17, less than a month from the time of writing. The game will be available in three editions: Standard, , and Collector's, the latter two come with bonus content like early access, in-game cosmetics, and a Steelbook case. Those who pre-order the game will also access the Traveling Suit Outfit and the Lion Tamer Whip, irrespective of their selected edition.

Fans And Naysayers Alike Were Impressed

Ahead of The Great Circle's release, there was plenty of skepticism regarding the game given its connections to a major movie IP that has, ittedly, struggled to stay relevant. After Indiana Jones and The Dial of Destiny proved to be a miss with critics, fans were worried that Machine Games' attempt to capture the magic of the original trilogy would also fail to meet expectations. Fortunately, The Great Circle not only proved to be a success amongst reviewers, but it also bowled over long-time enthusiasts thanks to its sheer commitment to the source material.

While many expected The Great Circle to be a cut-and-dry action-adventure romp, Machine Games opted to make something closer to an immersive sim that encourages players to experiment with various playstyles to find one that best suits them. It's entirely possible to go in guns blazing but shooting always feels impactful, like an escalation rather than a standard combat mechanic. Indy's iconic whip in fistfights never grows old.

Even If It Feels Like A Loss For Xbox

I'm certainly sympathetic to Xbox players' frustration regarding Indiana Jones and The Great Circle coming to PS5: At a time when Xbox needs quality exclusives, it stings to see it "lose" its most interesting game in years. Having said that, I'm pleased that PlayStation 5 owners also get to experience one of the best titles of 2024. I loved my time with The Great Circle, and I'm sure there are many PlayStation fans eager to see what all the fuss was about.
