According to a new rumor, BOTW-inspired Immortals title, once more inviting players to embark on a journey across the Ancient Greek world. Like the open-world Zelda game it borrowed so heavily from, Immortals featured everything from physics-based puzzles and Vaults to mini-bosses and paraglider-like Daedalus Wings.
The colorful adventure hit PC, Stadia, last-gen, and current-gen consoles in December 2020, mere weeks before CD Projekt Red's Cyberpunk 2077 went to market. As a result, Immortals Fenyx Rising never really had a chance to shine, but those who ventured across its vast landscape swore by it. Ubisoft continued to the experience for months on end, too, with free content updates and paid DLC that regularly gave players a reason to return. And, despite its unfortunate release timing, Immortals appears to have performed well enough to warrant further exploration.
Writing for E3 2022 event will go live is not yet known, but Ubisoft plans to let loose details about no less than 20 different projects when the time comes. Reportedly, a sequel to Immortals Fenyx Rising counts as one such title. Henderson notes the unannounced follow-up entry presently sits in pre-production, with series creator and Assassin's Creed Odyssey studio Ubisoft Québec "presumably" serving as lead developer. The insider added that Québec recently began hiring for the sequel, though no further details have surfaced at this time.
As always, it's best to take all of the above with a grain of salt. Ubisoft has yet to so much as hint at these claims, let alone fully corroborate them. Still, the Assassin's Creed publisher possibly pursuing Immortals Fenyx Rising 2 doesn't sound beyond the realm of possibility. And a sequel could be just what the nascent franchise needs to truly set itself apart from other open-world adventures on the market.
The Ubisoft Québec crew also has a team assigned to Assassin's Creed Infinity, the untitled live-service experience in production at the Québec and Montréal development houses. Apart from confirming that it won't launch as a free-to-play game, Ubisoft remains mum about AC Infinity's specifics. Either way, it seems the Québec studio will have its hands full for the next several years.
Immortals Fenyx Rising is out now on Google Stadia, PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
