Fans who were excited by the reveal of Mario Direct earlier in the month, providing what could be called a pseudo-Nintendo Direct for this month.
Hyrule Warriors; Age of Calamity is what Zelda producer Eiji Aonuma presented gameplay of these characters in action, as well as Link using the Bomb Rune against a horde of enemies. Not much else is known from the gameplay aside from the glimpses that could be taken from the trailer.
As revealed by Nintendo of America, as well as Gematsu’s schedule of the Tokyo Game Show, Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity's first live gameplay will debut on September 26th, from 8:00 am to 8:50 am in EST. Koei Techmo will also show the first live trailer and gameplay for Atelier Ryza 2: Lost Legends & the Secret Fairy, as well as what’s described as “other firsts.”
Perhaps one of the more burning questions of Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity is how its character roster will turn out. The original Hyrule Warriors had a lineup of characters from across the Zelda franchise, including some original characters for the game. The Wii U version had an initial total of 20 characters, and even more were added in Hyrule Warriors: Legends as well as the definitive edition, rounding to an impressive number of 30. Only six characters are known so far from the first reveal, that being the four champions, the titular Link, and even the incarnation of Zelda. It’s unlikely that Age of Calamity will match up with the wide lineup its previous installment reached, but more characters than the ones known now certainly wouldn’t hurt. For example, playing as some take on Calamity Ganon could provide an amount of cathartic carnage that the original Hyrule Warriors had when players dominated some story maps as Ganondorf.
There's certainly a lot of questions to ask about how Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity will present itself. Hopefully, we'll have a better idea of what the game will be like in two weeks during the Tokyo Gaming Show.
Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity will release exclusively for nintendo Switch on November 20, 2020.
