In the 2012 movie, Suzanne Collins' The Hunger Games book in 2008, the young adult series has become a pillar of YA fiction and dystopia. Over the course of three books (and four movies), audiences see Katniss not only survive the Hunger Games, but take down the cruel government that created them. However, Katniss faced many unique characters before the end of her story.
Although The Hunger Games mostly focuses on Katniss's experience of the Hunger Games, it is hard to ignore the other Hunger Games tributes that are also entering the games with her. Some of these figures are immediate enemies of Katniss, not only because of the competition, but because of their class. Others end up being surprising allies. Though The Hunger Games doesn't dive into every single tribute in the 74th Hunger Games, all 24 exist and make an impact on the games.
24 Marvel
District 1 Boy
The male tribute picked from District 1 during the 74th Hunger Games is named Marvel. As a member of District 1, Marvel was trained from birth to enter (and win) the Hunger Games. For much of the book, Marvel's brute strength and class puts him on top. Marvel is quickly absorbed into the Careers, a group of tributes from the wealthier districts. After their training assessments, Marvel is considered the third-strongest Career.
During the Hunger Games, Marvel ends up killing a number of tributes at the Cornucopia and afterward. However, halfway through the competition, Marvel is killed when Katniss shoots him through the neck. She does this because he killed Rue. In reality, Katniss never learned Marvel's name until Catching Fire, but his death sticks with her somewhat. Marvel is portrayed by Jack Quaid in The Hunger Games movie.
23 Glimmer
District 1 Girl
Marvel's partner in crime is a girl named Glimmer. She was similarly trained from a young age to fight in the Hunger Games, and proves her abilities by killing at least one tribute during the competition. She is also a part of the Careers, and plays a part in trying to kill Katniss. She is also the reason why Peeta s the Careers. Previous to the games, Glimmer stands out because the token she received before the Games, a ring, had a poisoned blade inside of it.

How Glimmer's Brutal Hunger Games Death Is So Much Worse In The Book
While The Hunger Games film showcases its fair share of brutal deaths, how Katniss kills Glimmer with a nest of tracker jackers is worse in the books.
Ultimately, Glimmer does not survive very long in the Hunger Games. While her and the Careers are camping out beneath Katniss's tree, Katniss drops a tracker jacker nest on top of them. Most of the Careers manage to get away, but Glimmer does not. She is stung countless times and ends up dying as a result of the venom. Katniss witnesses Glimmer's death and notes that the girl became unrecognizable. Glimmer is portrayed by Leven Rambin.
22 Cato
District 2 Boy
One of the most pivotal tributes in the Hunger Games is Cato. Like most of the Careers, Cato is an incredibly skilled fighter. In fact, he was not randomly chosen at the Reaping, but volunteered to enter the Games. Throughout The Hunger Games, Cato acts as the main antagonist against Katniss. He is a leader of sorts for the Careers, devising plans for them, and ends up being the last of them to survive. This leads to an intense final battle between Katniss, Peeta, and Cato, which Cato eventually loses.
Cato's death may be one of the most gruesome in The Hunger Games.
Cato's death may be one of the most gruesome in The Hunger Games. The District 2 tribute falls from the top of the Cornucopia and is attacked by wolf mutts. Throughout the night, Katniss hears Cato's slow and brutal death so that, by morning, she puts him out of his misery by shooting him with an arrow. Cato is portrayed by Alexander Ludwig in the movie.
21 Clove
District 2 Girl
Cato's district partner is Clove. Once again, Clove stands out as a massive threat due to her wealth and training. She is especially notable for her skill with knives. This ends up helping her when she makes the very first kill of the 74th Hunger Games during the bloodbath at the Cornucopia. Later, Clove and Katniss have an intense fight when each of the tributes are lured to the Cornucopia to get something they really need. Katniss may not have survived if it wasn't for Clove's shocking death.
Isabelle Fuhrman is well-known for playing the titular character in the horror franchise, Orphan.
At the Cornucopia, just as Clove is about to kill Katniss, the District 2 girl is murdered by Thresh with a large rock. Thresh kills Clove because he believes she killed Rue. Clove's death is yet another violent and brutal moment that is made worse by the fact that Cato finds her body and openly mourns her. Katniss finds herself comparing Clove and Cato to herself and Peeta, because the District 2 pair could have survived if Katniss and Peeta hadn't. Clove is played by Isabelle Fuhrman.
20 District 3 Boy
A Career Accomplice
The male tribute from District 3 is never named in The Hunger Games, but he does play a somewhat interesting role. The District 3 boy forms a loose relationship with the Careers before the Games due to his wealthier background. Perhaps because of this, he manages to survive the initial fight at the Cornucopia, though he gets into a small tousle with Cato. Eventually, the boy officially s the Careers due to his background in technology.

The Hunger Games' 10 Most Dangerous Tributes, Ranked
Every annual Hunger Games has a different 24 tributes enter the arena, and usually only one is left standing. Only the strongest survive!
The District 3 boy's biggest role, laying the Careers' booby traps, is what ultimately led to his death. After Katniss dismantles the traps with an arrow, setting all the Careers' supplies on fire, Cato blames the District 3 male for the damage. In a fit of rage, he snaps the boy's neck. In The Hunger Games movie, the District 3 Boy is played by Ian Nelson.
19 District 3 Girl
The First Kill
Unlike her district partner, the District 3 female doesn't last very long in the Hunger Games. After getting injured during training, the District 3 girl struggles during the initial fight at the Cornucopia. Although she runs forward to grab a backpack, another tribute slices her leg with a sword. Then, a second tribute finds her and slashes her throat. At the end of the first day, the District 3 female's face is the first that Katniss sees in the sky when the deaths are tallied. She is played by Kalia Prescott.
18 District 4 Boy
Another Early Kill
Another tribute who did not make it very far in the 74th Hunger Games is the District 4 Boy. This character is one of the most obscure in The Hunger Games, as he has no name and very little story. Although the boy makes it into the Careers before the start of the games, he is killed during the Cornucopia bloodbath. Katniss does not see how he dies, but she is surprised to see his face in the death toll because of his Career status. The District 4 boy is played by Ethan Jamieson.
17 District 4 Girl
A Forgotten Career
Like her district partner, the District 4 female is an early member of the Careers before the start of the Games. She manages to survive the Cornucopia fight, presumably killing some tributes along the way. In The Hunger Games book, the District 4 girl is a part of the Careers when they hunted Katniss in her tree. However, the girl is killed alongside Glimmer by tracker jacker stings. The District 4 girl is portayed by Tara Macken.
16 District 5 Boy
A Victim Of The Cornucopia
Yet another tribute who gets very little exploration is the District 5 boy. The nameless character appears in the background of The Hunger Games, and then, is quickly killed during the initial Cornucopia fight. In some ways, his absence is notable because of how it affects his district partner. The District 5 boy is played by Chris Mark.

Hunger Games: What Each District Is Known For, Explained
The Hunger Games series was set in the fictional world of Panem, a nation compromised of 13 districts. Here's what each district was known for.
15 Foxface
District 5 Girl
A notable tribute from the 74th Hunger Games is a character known as Foxface. Though Katniss never learns the girl's real name, Foxface is a figure who Katniss views as a serious threat. She forms no alliances, is incredibly sly and secretive, and manages to make a few good moves. One of those is when she sneaks into the Careers' territory and steals some of their supplies. However, Foxface doesn't manage to stay out of trouble for long.
Foxface ends up placing fourth in the Hunger Games. Her death occurs when she eats a bunch of berries that Peeta collected. Neither Peeta nor Foxface realized that the berries were poisonous. Thus, Foxface's death is a close call for Katniss and Peeta, although Katniss notes that Foxface may have died of starvation anyway. Foxface is portrayed by Jacqueline Emerson.
